STORE hoggs continued to sell at recent rates as 1016 cashed in to average £49.28 at Dingwall and Highland Marts. 
They peaked at £88 for a pen of Cheviots from Muirton, Munlochy, while the offering of 89 in-lamb ewes reached £92 for a pen of Texel crosses from the dispersal of 44 Scourie, Lairg. 
Levelling at £58.09, the 518 ewes sold to £134 for a Suffolk cross from Ospisdale, Dornoch, and the 45 rams sold to the same for ta Cheviot from Bayhead, Munlochy, having averaged £71.

Carlisle
THERE was a larger entry of store and weaned cattle at Harrison and Hetherington, where forward store cattle met a very strong demand. 
The 485 on offer reached £1440 for a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Rogerson, Maison Gill, Appleby, while bullocks sold to £1405 for a pair of Limmy crosses from Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle. 
A quality show of 304 weaned calves peaked at £1200 for Limousin cross bulls from Messrs Hall, Harelawhill, Harelaw, with heifers to £1070 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Kerry, Nether Oakshaw, Carlisle, and bullocks to £950 for trio of British Blues from Messrs Metcalfe, High Old Shield, Brampton. 
On Monday, an offering of store hoggs reached £90 for Texel crosses from Messrs Rigg, Ellonby Road, Skelton. 
The entry of breeding sheep saw the in-lamb offering peak at £119 from the annual consignment of in-lamb hoggs from Peter Kidd, Briggle, Langwathby, while ewe with lambs reached £86 per head for a Charolais cross from Messrs Elliot, Brackenhow, Dalston.

With bullocks selling to average 231.34p per kg and heifers at 225.48p, it was a pen of Limousin cross heifers from Huntington Partnership that topped the price per kg at 275.8p.

AVERAGES improved on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 1508 store cattle, which included an offering of BVD virus free heifers. 
The sale peaked at 286.5p per kg for a pen of five Charolais bullocks weighing 384kg from Cairnbeathie, Lumphanan, with the 848 bullocks also reached £1465 for a trio of 676kg Charolais from Stoneyhill, Longhaven. Bullocks levelled at 236.1p (+4.5p on the week). 
Heifers (558) averaged 233p (+6.5p) having sold to 281.4p for a 334kg Limousin from New Noth, Gartly, and £1460 for a pair of 566kg Simmentals from Mill of Newton, Insch. 
The 83 BVD free heifers cashed in to average 236.3p (+6.5p on the year), and reached tops of 280.2p for a pair of 514kg Simmentals from Ballogie Estates, as well as £1480 for a 632kg Simmy from Mains of Kindrought, Strichen. 
The entry of Orkney and Shetland cattle were topped by Charolais from Trondheim, Rendall, at 270.4p for a pair of 392kg bullocks and 262.7p for a pen of four heifers weighing 354kg. Per head, a 618kg Limousin bullock from Ringesta, Quendale, topped at £1330 with heifers to £1240 for a 558kg Blonde from the same home. 
Store hoggs once again met a strong trade as Texels from the 196-strong entry from the islands topped at £122 for Rowland, Holm, while the 1427 mainland hoggs reached £97.50 for Beltex from Knockiemore, Lonmay. The 41 ewe hoggs were topped by Texel crosses from Wards of Boyndlie, Fraserburgh, at £116. 
Of the breeding sheep, Texel hoggs from Auchtyhall, Peterhead, led the 696 grit ewes at £145 while Suffolks with lamb and a half from Chanryhill, Crimond, led the 14 ewes with lambs at £64. 
Feeding ewes and rams (991) sold to £152.50 for Texels from Woodhead, Cairness, as well as for Suffolks from South Tillydesk, Ellon.

STORE cattle set a record average of £1082.91 for the 1015 sold at a show and sale at United Auctions' Huntly on Saturday.
Judged by W George, of Parks, Rothiemay, taking the championship was a Limousin cross bullock from Colin Stuart, Belnoe, Glenlivet, which tipped the scales at 500kg and was knocked down for £1280 of 256p per kg. 
Taking the reserve honours was another Limousin cross, this time a 440kg heifer from George Carrol, Edendiack, which realised £1260 or 286p. 
The champion pen of four bullocks, 521kg Simmental crosses from GC McGillvray, Auchnascraw, Glenlivet, sold for £1245 or 238.9p, while the equivalent in the heifer section, 340kg Charolais from JK Hunter, Wedderburn, sold for £970 or 285.3p. 
Overall, the sale reached 315.7p for Limousin cross heifers from Main Street, Aberchirder, with the 298 heifers (which averaged 233.3p or £1002.47) also selling to £1430 for Limmy crosses from Sheep Park, Bridge of Marnoch. 
The 717 bullocks levelled at 235.5p or £1116.35, and were also topped by Limousin crosses at 312.3p from Edendiack, Huntly, and £1420 from Tochineal, Cullen. 
Averaging 159.9p or £1133.18, the 44 cast cows hit a record top of £1650 or 186.4p for a British Blue cross from Barnyards of Badenyouchers, Cornhill.

IN general, cattle were lighter on the year at United Auctions' early spring sale of grazing cattle on Islay but were, for the most part, dearer on the year as heifers cashed in to average £774.50 per head or 234.1p per kg (+£8.52 or +3.83), with bullocks at £853.79 or 250.2p (-£38.10 or +£6.7p).
Bullocks sold to £1200 from three different homes – for Charolais cross bullocks from both Tallant and Craigfad, as well as for Limousin cross bullocks from Tallant. Bullocks also reached 309p per kg for Limousin crosses from Aoradh. 
Heifers peaked at £1180 for Charolais crosses from Craigfad with Limousin crosses from Starchmill to 279p.

Quoybrae
A GOOD show of cattle met a fast selling trade at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 706 stores through its Quoybrae centre. 
Charolais crosses from Stainland and Sibmister Farms topped the price per kg at 285.3p per kg for a pair of bullocks weighing 382kg and 273p for a pair of heifers. 
A 702kg Limousin cross bullock from Brae Edge, Castletown, topped the gross trade at £1440 as the 398 bullocks cashed in to average 241.3p. 
The 308 heifers levelled at 232.3p having also reached £1260 for a 573kg Limousin cross from Lhaid Croft, Occumster.

Hexham
OFFERED at Hexham and Northern Marts, were 2175 store hoggs and cast ewes. 
Hoggs proved good to cash with no fewer than 34 pens passing the £100 mark as the sale averaged £81.72. They sold to £124 for a pair of Suffolk crosses from FT Walton, Flotterton. 
Well-fleshed ewes were dear and short of requirements, with more than 26% at £100 or above. A Texel from CR Fawcett, Well House, led the entry at £146.

Forfar
CHAROLAIS crosses from J and C Millar, Kinnaniel, topped Lawrie and Symington's sale of 327 store cattle on Tuesday, when a pen of bullocks realised £1130 and a heifer sold for £1270. 
Per kg, it was Limousin and British Blue crosses from TA Bissett and Son, Bishopton, that topped at 261.9p per kg while heifers sold to 253p for the same from the Firm of Donald Hood, Middlehill. 
In all, the 224 bullocks levelled at 230.9p with 86 heifers at 222.4p. 
The entry of 13 young bulls levelled at 205p, having sold to £1170 for a Simmental from CMR Soutar, Peasiehill, and 226.7p for a Beef Shorthorn from A and F Skene, Cairncross.

Longtown
A LARGE entry for the time of year attracted extra buyers and resulted in a fantastic trade when C and D Auction Marts sold 3942 store hoggs, feeding ewes and in-lamb ewes at Longtown. 
Store hoggs peaked at £107 for Beltex from Tirfergus, with other breeds to £97 for Texels from Unity and High Stenries. 
A small entry of in-lamb ewes, which were mainly hill sorts, sold to £78 for Hill Cheviots scanned with singles from Preisthaugh. 
A smaller show of 64 store cattle reached £1070 for a Limousin bullock from AJ Raine, Hazelgill, with heifers to £1040 for Limmies from the same home. 
A large selection of breeding cattle met a fine trade, as females peaked at £1450 for a British Blue with her Limousin-sired bull calf at foot from Ca Grieve and Sons, Snab Farm. In-calf females hit £1350 for Limousin heifers from N and O Pattison, The Flat. 
DF and RE Grant, Burrance of Courance, sold a run of 40 out wintered Aberdeen-Angus hill cows, which ranged from six to 16 years, peaked at £1180 and averaged £890.50.

AN increased number of cattle brought an influx of buyers to Wallets Marts where the entry of 499 store cattle met a flying trade from start to finish. 
They reached £1315 for a pen of Simmental bullocks from T McKinnel, Drumneil, with heifers to £1150 for Charolais crosses from TC Brown and Son, Trowdale. 
The 278 bullocks cashed in to average £1016.04 or 240.5p per kg, with 221 heifers at £902.69 or 226.1p.
