Carlisle
STORE cattle met a flying trade at Harrison and Hetherington where both bullocks and heifers topped the 500-strong entry at £1335. 
Making that price was a British Blue cross bullock from Messrs Lloyd, Fishergill, as well as a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Robinson, Pelutho Park. 
On Monday, H and H sold breeding sheep which met a slightly easier demand on the week as the lack of grass resulted in a degree of caution. They peaked at £102 per life, or £306 per unit, for a Texel cross ewe with Beltex-sired lambs at foot.

Dingwall
ALL classes sold at keen rates with Aberdeen-Angus crosses meeting an exceptionally strong demand at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of 755 Angus, native-bred and continental store cattle at a show and sale last week. 
Judging all sections was Jim Fowlie, Adziel, whose Angus champion was a 660kg bullock from Wester Fearn, Ardgay, which sold to Firm of A Reid, Hill of Haulkerton, for £1420. The reserve, a 645kg bullock from Ardjachie, Tain, sold to A Reid for £1410.
In the Shorthorn section, bullocks from WJ and GA Fraser, Little Croy, claimed the champion and reserve tickets with the former, a 525kg bullock, realising £1210 while the reserve, a 550kg bullock, made £1270. 
Overall, Aberdeen-Angus cattle topped the trade at £1440 for a 640kg bullock from Lochdhu, Nairn, with Angus bullocks also reaching 268.8p for a 376kg stot from North Calder, Halkirk. They averaged 240.7p for 290. 
Angus heifers (227) averaged 226.7p and sold to 277.1p (the top price per kg) and £1380 gross for a pen of 498kg Aberdeen-Angus crosses from Ardjachie. 
Other native breeds peaked at £1310 for a pair of 590kg Hereford cross bullocks from Braelangwell, Balblair, and 250p for a 400kg Luing cross bullock from Hartmount Holdings, Scotsburn. The 126 native bullocks levelled at 216.7p. 
Averaging 199.7p for 47, native heifers reached 227.5p and £1160 for a 510kg Shorthorn from Alvie Estate. 
Outwith the native entry, continental bullocks (35) averaged 222.6p and sold to 243.8p for a 530kg Simmental cross from Greenvale, Dunnet, and £1330 for a 615kg Limousin cross from Mid Fearn, Tain.
The 30 continental heifers averaged 215.4p, having hit tops of 238.2p for a pen of 361kg Charolais crosses from Forsie, Westfield, and £1195 for a 530kg Simmental cross from Greenvale.
Levelling at 139.9p, some 15 OTM cattle sold to 161.3p for a Limousin cross cow from Sornum, Easter Kinkell, and £1470 for an Aberdeen-Angus bull from Ardjachie. 
A selection of 5066 sheep included the annual spring sale of ewe hoggs, where strong and well-bred sorts met a firm trade. They averaged £69.825 for 3426, and sold to £138 for a pen of Beltex crosses from Simpson’s Croft, Scotsburn. 
The 1293 wedders levelled at £58.88 and topped at £103 for a pair of Zwartbles from Druid Temple, Inverness. 
A pair of in-lamb ewes from the dispersal of 12 Airdens, Bonar Bridge, topped the 12 breeding sheep at £110, while the 267 cast ewes averaged £47.81 and reached £148 for a pair of Texel crosses from Burnside Croft, Jamestown. 
A Zwartbles ram from Druid Temple headed up the 68 feeding sheep at £100.

Stirling (UA)
UNITED Auctions sold 1378 store cattle and young bulls at a sale which included the April show of stores judged by R Ferguson, East Camps. 
Andrew Morton, of Lochend, Denny, won both the bullock and heifer classes with the former 481kg stot selling for £1220, while the winning heifer weighed 479kg and realised £1205.
Topping the entry at £1430 was a 686kg Charolais cross from Netherton with the 718 bullocks, which averaged 238.01p per kg, also selling to 305.1p for a 272kg Limousin cross from Balgowan. 
The 74 dairy bullocks averaged 160.22p, and sold to £865 from High Branchal and 160.22p from Middleton. 
Having averaged 231.6p for 543, heifers peaked at £1350 for a 588kg Limmy cross from Lochend and 275.9p for a 290kg Charolais cross from Hawthorn.
Young bulls (43) averaged 239.96p and sold to 285.1p and £1115 for a Limousin cross from Clatto.
A Simmental cross from Blackburn headed up the cast cows at £1530 and 192p, as the 67 beef-bred cows averaged 157.17p while dairy cows (12) averaged 122.4p. 
Also forward were 2180 store and breeding sheep, where ewe hoggs reached £107 for Mules from Garpel, with stores to £85 for Blackfaces from Craigend.

Thainstone
A TOTAL of 2035 store cattle sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts, where a show of store cattle was judged by Graham Marshall, Braeside, Tough. 
He selected an 11-month-old Charolais cross heifer weighing 574kg from Blair Duffton, Steven Smith and Rebecca Stuart, Bogie Street, Huntly, as his champion which later sold to Bill Cameron, Burnside of Edingight, for £1420. 
Mr Marshall bought the reserve, a 410kg Limousin bullock from I Sclater, Breckan, for £1220. 
Best of the pairs was a 360kg pair of bullocks from P Cooper and Son, Govals, which Mr Marshall purchased for £1070. 
Charolais calves from Lythmore, Bridge of Westfield, headed up the price per kg in both sections at 351.7p for a pen of eight bullocks weighing 236kg, with heifers to 307.1p for a pen of nine weighing 254kg. 
As heifers with bulling potential were in high demand, it was a trio of Simmental crosses weighing 550kg from Turfhillock, Drummuir, that topped the gross trade at £1560, while a 682kg Charolais from North Redhill, Rothiemay, headed up the bullock entry at £1520. 
Of the Orkney and Shetland cattle, Limousin bullocks topped at 297.7p for one weighing 354kg from Breckan, Evie, and £1350 for one weighing 612kg from Vetquoy Farms, Twatt. Limousins from Breckan also topped the heifers at 273.4p for a 320kg pair, with a trio of 498kg Aberdeen-Angus heifers from Lower Stanger, Birsay, making £1125. 
Of the offering of 2247 store sheep, ewes with lambs (1343) met an excellent trade to top at £88 per life for broken-mouthed Mules with lamb and a half at foot from Cairnton, Fordyce, and again for broken-mouth Cheviot Mules with twins from Bridgeton, Muir of Fowlis. 
Ewe hoggs (192) reached £145 for Texels from Ardlogie, Fyvie. 
The mainland entry of 1031 store hoggs reached £125 for Cheviots from Pitreadie, Strachan, while the entry from the islands (121) sold to £111.50 for continentals from Gilbraes, Hus. 
Feeding ewes and rams (760) hit a top of £200 for a pure Texel Ewe from Velitgar, Tankerness

Ayr
STORE cattle sold dearer on the week with more buyers forward at Craig Wilson, where 257 beef-bred bullocks levelled at 239.5p per kg or £972.37 with 72 dairy-bred bullocks at 162.1p or £788.61 and 154 heifers at 224.6p or £893.99.
Topping the trade at £1450 was a pair of 560kg Limousin bullocks from Muirlaught, with bullocks also hitting 284.9p for a pen of 358kg Charolais from Knowe, Isle of Arran. Friesian bullocks sold to £880 and 184.4p from Crawlaw. 
Charolais off Knowe also topped the heifers at 254p, with a Limousin heifer from Challochmun making £1185.
Also forward were 275 store and breeding sheep, where the eight ewes with lambs hit £150 for a Texel ewe with twins from Messrs Park, Lochgreen. 
In-lamb ewes (50) sold £93 for a pen of Blackface gimmers from R McCrone, Stroma. The 217 hoggs met the sharpest trade of the season, peaking at £93 for Suffolks from Messrs Walker, Craigneil Farm.

Quoybrae
ABERDEEN and Northern Marts sold 477 store, prime and feeding sheep, on Monday, where the 332 store hoggs peaked at £111 for Cheviots from Copperfield, Harpsdale. 
The 94 prime hoggs hit 253.2p per kg for 40kg Charollais from Ackergill Mains, Wick, as well as £120 for Suffolks weighing 61kg from Scarmclate, Halkirk. 
Texels from Tongside, Scotscalder, topped the 51 feeding sheep at £124.

STORE cattle met a buoyant demand throughout the offering at Wallets Marts, where a top of £1290 was paid for a pen of Aberdeen-Angus bullocks form Messrs McHarrie, High Glenjorrie, which who also topped the heifer section at £1230 with Charolais crosses. 
Per kg, a pen of eight Charolais crosses from Messrs Davidson, Poldean, peaked at 309p with heifers to 291.3p for Charolais crosses from J Mair and Son, Bargatton. 
Overall, 445 bullocks levelled at 229.76p or £937.58 with 289 heifers at 223.71p or £865.02. 
The 55 cast cows averaged 128.2p, having peaked at 164p for a Simmental cross from A Lindsay and Co, Culnaightrie, as well as £1270 for a British Blue from T Robb, Trolane.

C AND D Auction Marts sold a selection of store, feeding and breeding sheep, on Tuesday, where the store hogg trade remained at extreme rates and peaked at £116 for Texels from Calvo. 
In the breeding section, more quality outfits were requirement to fulfil buyers’ requirements as the entry peaked at £75 per life for a three-crop Texel ewe with Beltex-sired twins from K Macintyre, Downan. 
A consignment of 153 in-lamb North Country Cheviot hill ewes from W Robertson, Kilfinnan, peaked at £74.
A mixed selection of 98 store cattle met a slightly dearer trade on the fortnight, reaching £1260 for an Aberdeen-Angus bullock from Miss F Gibson, Southwoodhead, with the same home topping the heifers at £1100 with Angus. 
In the breeding section, the final consignment from CA Grieve and Sons, Snab Farm, peaked at £1500 for a British Blue cow with Limousin-sired bull calf at foot.
