Carlisle
BOLSTERED by an uptake in the weather, a larger entry of 472 store cattle sold dearer on the week at Harrison and Hetherington, last week, where a British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Holliday and Graham, Bolton Wood Lane, topped at £1380. 
Bullocks reached £1290 for a British Blue cross from Messrs Ivison, Cooper House, with dairy types to £1045 for bullocks from Messrs Moscrop, Rye Close. 
On Monday, a larger entry of ewes with lambs met a buoyant trade with stronger units well sought after. They sold to £108 per life for a two-crop Texel ewe with a strong Texel-sired lamb at foot from Messrs Thompson, Howburn. 
A small selection of store hoggs attracted a good enquiry, with Beltex crosses from Kallum Hunt, Braithwaite Shields, selling to £94.

Dingwall
A MIXED show for size and quality met a steady trade at Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale of store cattle, where 340 bullocks levelled at 241.3p per kg with 354 heifers at 229p. 
A 195kg Aberdeen-Angus heifer from Flowerburn Mains, Fortrose, topped the sale at 312.8p, with a 485kg British Blue cross heifer from Fornighty, Lethen, making £1310. 
Bullocks reached 303.7p for a 270kg Limousin cross from Wester Tomloan, Nairn, while a 675kg Simmental cross bullock from 17 Englishtonmuir, Inverness, topped the gross trade at £1390. 
The two young bulls reached 240.5p and £1010 for a 420kg Limmy cross from Dunain Mains, Inverness.
Prime and feeding cows (53) levelled at 146.1p having peaked at 169.7p for a British Blue cross from Wester Moy, Urray, as well as £1410 for a Limousin cross from Conon Mains, Conon. 
Also forward were six prime and feeding bulls which averaged 121p and sold to 135.2p for an Angus and £1470 for a Limousin, both from Knocknagael, Inverness.

CHAROLAIS cross bullocks topped United Auctions’ sale of 1652 store and native-bred cattle when a 327kg entry from Low Polqueys realised 299.7p per kg and another weighing 662kg from Ruaidheabhal made £1420. 
By the end of the day, 851 bullocks cashed in to average 237.03p while 44 dairy-bred bullocks levelled at 160.27p having sold to 181.6p from Drum and £870 from Piersland. 
Averaging 223.92p, the 704 heifers reached 276.9p for a British Blue cross weighing 325kg from Mid Shawton as well as £1400 for a 600kg Limousin cross from Fardon. 
A Blonde cross from South Brownhill headed up the 53 young bulls (which averaged 191.99p) at 225.7p and £1160. 
Of the cast cows on offer, 103 beef-bred cows averaged 152.84p having sold to 182.3p for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Hall as well as £1610 for a Charolais cross from Craigend. The 19 dairy cows levelled at 117.92p and hit 157.3p from Kinnermit and £1090 from Nyadd. 
Also forward was a selection of 628 store hoggs and breeding sheep where breeders sold to £197 for two-crop Texel ewes with Beltex-sired twins from Strathdon, while Suffolks from Ladylands topped the store hoggs at £113.

THERE was a good run of grazing cattle at Harrison and Hetherington’s St Boswells centre, where bullocks topped the trade at £1330 for a Charolais cross from Messrs Hogg, Longyester, as well as 285.1p for a pen of Aberdeen-Angus crosses from Messrs Osborne, Outerston. 
Heifers sold to £1260 for Limousins from Soutra and 276.9p for more of the same from Caverton Mill. 
In all, bullocks averaged 241.08p (+5p on the week) with heifers at 226.45p (-5p).

A MIXED entry of cattle and sheep sold in keeping with mainland values at United Auctions’ Lochboisdale mart, last week. 
The sale reached 265p per kg for Limousin bullocks form 5 Frobost as well as £960 for more of the same from Middlequarter. 
Heifers hit 238p for Shorthorn crosses from 20 Balivanich and £860 for Limmy crosses from 348 North Bosdale. 
Breeding cattle sold to a top of £2100 for a cow with calf from 348 North Boisdale, while cast cows hit £1100 and 142p for a Simmental cross from 136 Stilligarry. 
Store hoggs sold to £70 for both Suffolk crosses from 6 Rhughasinish and Texel crosses from 6 Milton, while ewes sold to £70 for Mules from 6 Rhughasinish.

GOOD, natural cattle sold sharper on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of store cattle where 890 bullocks levelled at 246.p per kg (+1.7p on the week) with 741 heifers at 228.1p (-1.5p). 
Charolais crosses topped the price per kg at 297.4p for a 390kg pair of bullocks from Broomhill, Dunecht, with heifers to 277.8p for a 396kg entry from Darley, Fyvie. Per head, Limousin crosses led at £1465 for a 634kg bullock from Huntly Lodge, Huntly, and £1390 for a 628kg pair of heifers from Leitcheston, Enzie. 
Young bulls (15) reached 247.2p for a pair of 352kg Simmental crosses from Raefin, Keith, and £1200 for a 508kg Limousin from Drumforber, Laurencekirk.
Orkney and Shetland cattle saw bullocks sell to a top of 271.4p for a pen of seven 350kg Charolais from Lower Hobbister, Stenness, and £1190 for a 484kg Charolais cross from Rosebank, Twatt. 
Heifers reached 257.9p for a 442kg Charolais cross from Old Hall, Stromness, and £1190 for a 594kg Aberdeen-Angus from Messiegate, Tankerness.
Also on offer were 2951 sheep of all classes, where ewes with lambs at foot (1645) met a very fast-selling trade peaking at £86 per life for three-year-old Texel ewes with twins from Bogiefeulach, Tornaveen. 
Ewe hoggs (72) hit £107 for Texels from Land Street, Rothes, while store hoggs (351) sold to £74.50 for Texels from Coburty, Mains Rosehearty, and island hoggs (145) reached £69.50 for Texels from Upper Onston, Stenness. 
The 738 feeding ewes and rams sold to £144.50 for pure Texel ewes from Land Street, Rothes, as well as Texel rams from Mains of Auchnagatt, Auchnagatt.

THERE was a mixed show for quality which met an increased demand and was short of requirements at United Auctions’ sale of 813 cattle, where British Blues from Edendiack, Gartly, topped the price per kg at 324.6p for bullocks and 323.1p for heifers. 
A Charolais cross bullock from Home Farm Wardhouse led the gross trade at £1395 as 383 bullocks averaged 240.2p. Heifers hit £1205 from Hill of Adiffery, Hatton, to average 228.2p for 410 sold. 
Averaging 150.3p, the 20 OTM cattle sold to 197.8p from Cobbleheugh, Dinnet and £1480 from Braehead, Drummuir.

THERE was a large percentage of stronger, dairy cross cattle forward at C and D Auction Marts where trade was firm and grazing cattle were wanted. 
The 247 bullocks cashed in to average 218.9p per kg, having peaked at 281p for British Blues from Stockbridgehill and £1370 for Limousins from Netherhall. Holstein bullocks hit 196.6p and £885 from Longrigg to average 144.2p for 30. 
Heifers (142) levelled at 208p and sold to 276.7p for Blues from Stockbridgehill as well as £1190 for more of the same from Westhills.

SELLING through Caledonian Marts, on Monday, were 712 store cattle and young bulls, where bullocks from GS Stewart, Wester Whin, topped at 330p per kg with another pen of stots from J and J Brown, Loanrigg, topping the gross trade at £1270. 
Heifers hit 247p from C and A Bothwell, Cleugh, as well as £1190 from D Ralston, Castlehill, to average 211p with bullocks at 229p. 
Also forward was a selection of 393 store hoggs and ewes with lambs, where a pen of Texel ewes with twins at foot from AD Kinninmonth, Kinnighallen, topped the breeders at £204. 
Store hoggs hit £86 for Texels from Airthrey Kerse.

A LARGE entry of 944 sheep with lambs at foot sold to an ever increasing ringside of purchasers all eager for sheep at C and D Auction Marts, where a run of 62 pure Texels with lambs from Billy Bell, Kinninghall, topped at £158 per life for a pair of two-crop ewes with single tup lambs at foot. 
An entry of 126 aged Scotch Mule ewes with Suffolk-sired lambs from Messrs Renwick, Howford, peaked at £74.50 per life. 
All classes of the 294-entry of store hoggs remained dear, peaking at £132 for Suffolk crosses from Shawhill.

SHEEP were weathered as a result of the hard winter but trade proved very promising with all sheep well bid for at Harrison and HEtherington’s Broughton centre, on Tuesdya. 
The entry of ewes with lambs peaked at £74 per life for a pen of Suffolk crosses with Texel-sired lambs at foot from Messrs Brocklebank, Bank Head, Haverigg, who also went on to top the unit price at £213 for ewes with twins. 
Fell-bred sheep sold well with Herdwick ewes up to £37 per life for ewes with twins from Messrs Wilson, Parsonage, Millom.
