MORE than 1200 store cattle were forward for Harrison and Hetherington's May Day prize show and sale at Kirkby Stephen, where trade peaked at £1530 for a yearling British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House, Barbon.

The champion, selected by N Leighton, Goole, was a seven-month-old British Blue cross heifer by Tweeddale Ironman, from Messrs Tiplady, Red House Farm, Barnard Castle, which later sold for £1300 to the judge.

Reserve was an 11-month-old Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Barker, Middle Bank End Farm, Appleby, that made £1140.

By the end of the day, more than half the cattle sold between £1100 and £1500, with steers averaging £1080.85 and heifers at £982.92.
