Huntly
ALL classes of sheep met an flying trade and were sharper on the week at United Auctions’ sale of 2364 prime sheep at Huntly, last week. 
Levelling at 256.3p per kg, 1638 old season lambs sold to 288p for 43kg continentals from Smallburn, Elgin, and to £135 for 60kg Texels from Mains of Tarryblake, Rothiemay. 
New season lambs (14) peaked at 298p for 43kg Texels from Weets, Wardhouse, and to £150 for a 52kg Dorset from Smallburn, Elgin. 
A larger number of 712 ewes met a firm enquiry when they reached £140 for Suffolks from North Dorlaithers, Turriff. 
Wigton
SIMILAR numbers were forward at Hopes Auction Company’s primestock sale this week, where trade reached 255.5p per kg and £1668.42 for a 653kg Limousin heifer from DA Harrison, Hill House, Aldoth. 
Bullocks peaked at £1547.13 and 218.5p from East Mill. 
Hoggs averaged 269p and sold to £158 and 345.70p for 40.5kg Beltex from GEH and SJ Stoddart, Hillside, Wigton. 
Spring lambs (20) reached £150 and 333.3p for Texels from Adam Bell, Hill Crest, Rosley, while prime ewes peaked at £136 on three occasions for Texels from Messrs Bowe, Mechi; Messrs Hewetson, Lords Close; and GEH and SJ Stoddart, Hillside. 
Dumfries
WELL-fleshed hoggs maintained recent values at C and D Auction Marts’ prime sale, when Texels from Lanarkland topped the trade at £137 and a pen from Newhope realised 298p per kg. 
They cashed in to average 255p per kg. 
Cast ewes and rams (185) saw heavy ewes reach £128.50 for Texels from Victoria House, light ewes peak at £91.50 for Cheviots from Barnbarroch and rams sell to £120.54 for Texels from 4 Park Street. 
The 32 cast dairy cattle averaged 124.6p and sold to 147p for a Holstein from Boreland of Colvend and £1136 for a Friesian from Drum, while 10 beef types levelled at 150p having peaked at 167p for a Luing from Chanlockfoot and £1211.80 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Newbigging. 
Limousin cross heifers from Pendicle topped the prime cattle at 230p. 
Cockermouth
A GOOD show of bulls and cast cows met a strong demand at Mitchells Auction Company’s sale of 54 prime cattle, last week.
Topping the gross trade at £1430.61 was a Limousin bull from WE Callion and Sons, Lodge, while a similarly bred entry 632kg from RG and JM Smith, Lake View, made 207.50p. 
Cast cows peaked at 186.5p and £1419.85 from Messrs Knight, Stephney Farm. 
With a good show of spring lambs forward and an SQQ average of 312.4p, trade reached 369.9p and £170 for a 46kg Suffolk lamb from G Butler, Moor Platt Farm. 
Hoggs also met strong demand having averaged 233.3p. They peaked at 307p for a pen of Texel hoggs from KD Harryman, Keskadale, while a similar pen from Messrs Sewell, Mayfield, made £160. 
Thainstone
SOME 43 prime cattle sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ Thainstone centre, last week, where five bullocks averaged 211.1p per kg (-4.6p on the week) and 31 heifers levelled at 221.6p (+0.5p). 
Bullocks topped the gross trade when an 815kg Limousin cross from Newton Kincardine O’Neil, made £1499.60 and heifers realised 243p and £1482.30 for a 610kg Limousin from Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt. 
Bullocks also peaked at 233p for a Charolais weighing 630kg from Waterside of Forbes, Alford. 
Among the 148 cast cows and bulls, the sale achieved the highest average for some time when 139 beef cows levelled at 160.5p (+10.1p). They sold to 213.2p for a lightweight British Blue from Bluewhin, Borrowston, and £1750 for a Charolais weighing more than a tonne from Airdlin Mains, Ythanbank. 
Nine cast bulls cashed in at 132.9p (+0.7p) having sold to 149.7p for a 915kg Charolais from Tillydesk, Ellon, and £1550 for a 1085kg Charolais from Midbigging, Toab. 
A good show of 2671 old season lambs also met an excellent demand when they levelled at 260.2p (+5.2p) having reached 299p for 48kg Texels from Balmaglaster, South Laggan, and £152 for 68kg Texels from Birselawsie, Midmar. 
The 1756 SQQ hoggs averaged 258.6p (+1.8p). 
Stirling (Cal)
ALL classes of prime cattle met a similar trade on the week at Caledonian Marts’ sale of 111 bullocks, heifers and young bulls and 64 cast cows and bulls. 
Top price was 250p for a Limousin heifer from Faskine, Airdrie, and £1698 for a Simmental bullock from Gillandersland. 
Bullocks also sold to 240p for a Limousin from East Camps, Dunfermline, with heifers to £1632 for a Charolais from Gillandersland. 
A plainer show of beef cows resulted in averages slightly back on the week although all cows still met a strong demand. 
Averaging 142p, beef cows realised 188p and £1380 for a Limousin from W Dick, Mains of Throsk, Throsk, while dairy types levelled at 112p and sold to 132p from R Denholm and Son, Wester Lochdrum, Bonnybridge, and £1010 from T Greer and Sons, Wharlawhill, Fossoway. 
On Tuesday, the firm’s sale of 2407 prime sheep saw 1668 well-fleshed hoggs sell between 250p and 290p. They peaked at 326p and £151 from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Crieff, to average 236.2p (-7.67p). 
The 31 spring lambs levelled at 295.5p (+8.19p) and peaked at 315p from J Wilson, Balhelvie, and also sold to a top of £155 from Easter Octhermuthill. 
Also forward were 716 cast ewes and tups which saw heavy types average £85.09 and reach £138 for a pen of Texels from S and JE Andrew, Letter, Loch of Lowes, with export ewes cashing at £54.32. 
Cast rams sold to £125 for a Texel from A Beaton, Wester Crosshill. 
Longtown
SOME 2817 hoggs sold through C and D Auctions, last week, where top prices of £162 and 335p per kg were paid for Beltex from J Guthrie, Cuiltburn, Crieff, with many selling in the £140-£150 bracket. 
Averaging 253.8p per kg, light hoggs met a strong trade and reached £91 for a pen of 40 Cheviot hoggs weighing 33kg from Messrs Taylor, Heathery Hall, Lanark. 
A larger show of 50 spring lambs attracted a strong demand and sold to £149 for Suffolks from I and J Barbour, Beechgrove, Annan, while 2638 cast ewes and rams sold slightly firmer on the week as they peaked at £176 for Texel ewes from AR Bell and Son, Kirkton, Hawick. 
Prime cattle (21) were topped at 229p for a Blonde cross heifer from Messrs Fiddler, Barrow Ling, and £1547.80 for a Limousin bullock from Dashwell Green.
Top gross price amongst the heifers was £1475.60 for a Limousin from Barrow Ling
Ayr
ON Monday, Craig Wilson sold 1835 sheep comprising of 32 new season lambs, 1109 old season hoggs and 698 cast sheep. 
Good, fleshy hoggs peaked at £144 and 288p per kg for four Beltex from A McMillan, Burnbank, Dalrymple, with the overall average being 222.4p. Blackface hoggs hit a top of £121 and 268.9p from Brisbane Glen Estate. 
Averaging 295.6p or £131.64, the 32 new season lambs hit £150 or 340.9p for 44kg Suffolk from John McKinley.
The 325 heavy ewes sold to £157.50 for four big strong Suffolks from W and EI Brown, Laigh Drumdow, to average £87.50, while 373 light ewes levelled at £60.20 and reached £79.50 for Blackfaces from J and J Thomson, Mossend. 
Cast tups were topped at £130.50 for a Texel from A Shearer and Son, East Revoch.

Lanark
LAWRIE and Symington’s weekly primestock sale on Monday saw the entry of 1353 prime hoggs average 249.3p per kg, with a top price of 337.8p paid for Beltex from T and J Clark, Wellhead Farm, and £135.50 for heavyweight Texels from Heatheryhall. 
The 681 cast ewes and rams levelled at £83.38 and sold to £168.50 for Texel ewes from St Johns Kirk. 
Leading the prime cattle at 253.5p or £1455 was an entry from Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, while 93 cast cows and bulls sold to £1375 for a Limousin from Woodlands, Carmichael, with dairy types to £1095 from Shotlinn Farm, Strathaven. 
Carlisle
PRIME cattle met a strong trade at Harrison and Hetherington’s smaller sale of 36 prime steers and heifers, on Monday, which was topped at £1697.63 and 251.5p per kg for a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Watret, Muirfield, Lockerbie. 
Bullocks peaked at 243.5p for a Limousin from Low House and £1641 for the same from Miller Hill.
Among the 74 prime bulls, top price was £1778.59 and 223.5p for a Limousin from Messrs Wilson, Reddings, Moffat.
Demand for prime hoggs was also strong with the sale having reached £138.80 for a pen of five Beltex hoggs from CR and CL Donaldson, Hazel House, York, and 300p for two pens of Texel cross hoggs from R Skelton, High Crosby Farm. 
Lead price among the spring lambs was £154 for heavy Suffolks from Messrs Irving, Hilltop, and 375p for Zwartbles cross lambs from Whitehead Brow. 
Beltex ewes from Banks Farm and Charollais rams from Killecrankie topped the cast ewes and rams at £125.50 
Dingwall
THIRTY prime cattle were forward for Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale on Tuesday which sold to 250p per kg and £1525 for a 610kg Limousin cross heifer from Easter Strath of Auchterflow, Avoch. 
While heifers averaged 225.3p (-3.3p on the week), the six bullocks levelled at 226.1p (-3.9p) and sold to 246p for a 540kg Charolais cross from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall, and £1376.85 for a 685kg Simmental cross from Balvaird Farm, Muir of Ord. 
The entry of 389 old season lambs averaged 272.1p (+32.6p) and sold to 297.5p for a pen of 40kg Texel crosses from 5c Balnabeen, Conon Bridge, and £125 for a pen of 45.5kg Suffolk crosses from South Clunes, Kirkhill. 
SQQs (251) averaged 267.2p (+19p). 
Ewes and feeding sheep (107) cashed in at £65.06 and sold to £110 for a Texel cross ewe from Kinnahaird Farm, Contin.
