Carlisle
THERE was a good mid-summer entry of 415 store cattle at Harrison and Hetherington, last week, which attractted a large ringside of buyers despite grass-work and clipping being a priority. 
Strong cattle were good to sell and topped at £1335 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross bullock from Messrs Crichton, Rottington Hall, Whitehaven, while heifers hit £1245 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Whitfield, Orton Rigg, Carlisle. 
A smaller entry of 210 weaned cattle met a selective trade to peak at £1090 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Norman, Little Orton, with heifers to £945 for the same and bullocks to £905 for Charolais from Glenlea.

Stirling (UA)
LIMOUSIN crosses headed up most sections at United Auctions’ sale of 347 store cattle, last week, when a 248kg bullock from Stralochy realised 282.3p per kg while heifers reached 258.6p for a 263kg entry from Gateside as well as £1260 for another at 580kg from Crookedstonemuir. 
Bullocks also reached £1360 for a 640kg Hereford cross from Benston, with the same home topping the dairy-bred bullocks at 199.3p and £1120 for a 562kg Friesian. 
In all, the 173 bullocks averaged 222.74p with 22 dairy bullocks at 161.03p and 140 heifers at 214.77p. 
The 12-strong entry of young bulls levelled at 190.58p having peaked at 221.2p and £1230 for a Simmental cross from Innerwick. 
A Limousin cross from Stralochy also topped the 83 beef-bred cast cows at 195.4p while another of the same breed from Easter Greenhill made £1450. They averaged 148.52p while 19 dairy cows levelled at 110.12p having peaked at 143.5p from Glenrig and £1050 from Meikle Camoquhill.

Ayr
DESPITE a plainer show for quality, trade was similar to the previous event at Craig Wilson’s sale of 201 store cattle, last week. 
With 122 bullocks cashing in to average 221.4p per kg or £905.18, they sold to £1350 for a Charolais bullock from Middleton with a pen of Limousins from Nether Ardroscadale reaching 258.2p per kg. 
The 50 heifers hit £1160 for a pair of Herefords from Stoopshill and 223.2p for a pen of Simmentals from East Whitelee. They averaged 203.6p or £725.70. 
The entry of 29 dairy-bred bullocks levelled at 172.5p or £743.45 and sold to £1025 and 190.2p from Barbeth. 
A small end of season show of 16 Blackface ewes with lambs at foot were topped at £140 for a pen of Blackies with twin Mule lambs from Messrs Caldwell, East Mitchelton, Kilbarchan.

Thainstone
ABERDEEN and Northern Marts sold 36 breeding cattle at Thainstone, last week, where a Limousin heifer with heifer calf at foot from Pittenkerrie, Glassel, topped the trade at £2350 while cows with calves reached £1900 for a Simmental cross with bull calf from Mains of Drumdollo, Drumblade. 
In the store cattle ring, Charolais crosses from Bardnaclavan, Bridge of Westfield, topped the price per kg at 277.5p for a pen of four bullocks weighing 346kg and 256p for a pen of six heifers weighing 336kg. 
Per head, a 596kg Simmental cross form Broomton, Nairn, led the 75 bullocks at £1270 with the 115 heifers to £1200 for a 526kg Simmental cross from Burnside of Sittinghillock, Ruthven. 
Young bulls (14) sold to 208.3p for a 600kg Simmental cross from Stratheast, Holm, and £1300 for a 634kg Luing from Aikerness, Evie.
The entry of store and breeding sheep saw 270 breeding sheep sell to a top of £61 for Texel hoggs with twins form Newton of Lewesk, Old Rayne. 
The 12 new season store lambs peaked at £88 for Suffolks from Newton of Balquhain, Pitcaple, while the same number of store hoggs hit £64 for Shetlands from South Farden, Newburgh. 
Texel and Suffolk rams form Biggings, Toab, topped the 450 feeding sheep at £143, while ewes reached £135 for Suffolks off Tillyeve, Udny.

SOME 227 ewes and lambs were sold through C and D Auction Marts’ season finale at Longtown, on Tuesday, where prices peaked at £78 per life for a pen of Texel cross ewes with singles from Low Tipalt. 
A small show of store cattle peaked at £960 for a Charolais heifer from Underwoodhouse, with a Limousin bullock from the same home hitting £930.

Cast cows reached 164p per kg and £1190.64 for a Limousin from Glenlee Farms, New Galloway.
