Carlisle
ANOTHER good selection of cattle met a strong demand at Harrison and Hetherington’s store sale, last week, which comprised 581 store cattle, bulls and stirks and 167 dairy cattle. 
Store cattle (310) saw larger and well-fleshed types sell well, with lesser sorts down on the week. 
Top price overall was £1375 paid for a Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Frice, Newtown, Carlisle, while heifers peaked at £1310 for a British Blue from Messrs Wood, Arnold House, Carlisle. 
A good show of 271 weaned cattle were forward which included 124 bulls with an increased ringside of buyers ensuring a sharper trade than that of last weeks. 
Oakghyll Farm led the trade at £1180 for a British Blue heifer, while bulls sold to £1050 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Rottington Hall and bullocks to £970 twice for Limousins from Thomasdene. 
On Friday, the firm held its monthly sale of beef breeding cattle where a mixed show of cows and heifers was forward and sold to a large ringside of buyers. 
Leading the trade at £2180 was a run of Limousin cross heifers and calves from Messrs Stevenson and Son, Lower Langshaw Farm.
The Ash sold the top priced Limousin cross cow and calf at £2000.

Stirling (UA)
UNITED Auctions sold 600 store cattle and young bulls, last week, where 344 bullocks averaged 219.54p per kg; 66 black and white bullocks levelled at 145.26p and 185 heifers cashed in at 209.64p. 
Bullocks were topped by 316kg Simmental cross from South Common which made 250p while a 558kg Charolais cross from Wester Clunie realised £1320. 
The 185 heifers forward peaked at 249.30p for a 365kg Limousin cross from Newpark and £1190 for a 596kg Aberdeen-Angus from Nethertown. 
Holstein Friesians from High Craichmore topped the black and white bullocks at 203.10p for an entry weighing 458kg and £930 for another at 458kg. 
Averaging 147.53p, the 87 beef cows sold to 204.20p for a Simmental cross from Lower Luthrie and £1330 for a Simmental cross from The Abbey, while the 18 dairy types cashed in at 112.03p and peaked at 134p for a Holstein Friesian cross from Hillhouse and £995 for the same from Meldrum. 
The five young bulls levelled at 185.86p and sold to 194.30p and £1000 for a Shorthorn from Glenkiln.

Ayr
A SMALLER and poorer show for quality was forward for Craig Wilson’s store cattle sale at Ayr, this week, where trade reached £1250 for a Holstein Friesian heifer from Robert Warnock and Son, Hill Farm. 
The 178 calves and stirks forward were easily cashed with calves peaking at £625 for a Limousin cross bull from DS Parker and Son, Merkland, and stirks at £1030 for Limousin cross heifers from J and E Paterson, Oxenshaw. 
Among the 107 breeding cattle, heifers and calves proved harder to cash with better sorts no cheaper. 
The 65 heifers and calves averaged £1674.24 and peaked at £2700 for a Limousin heifer with bull calf from Pennymore, while eight cows and calves levelled at £1386.25 and sold to £2380 from the same home. 
The 14-strong entry of bulls averaged £2261.25 and topped at 2800gns twice from Cranslagvourity, while 18 bulling heifers levelled at £973.33 and peaked at £1100 Hill of Ochiltree.

CATTLE from Daleigh, Advie, dominated United Auctions’ sale of 119 store and OTM cattle at Huntly, this week, when they topped both the bullocks and the heifers. 
Bullocks (42) averaged 224p and sold to 233.3p for a pen weighing 370kg and £1070 for a Simmental cross
The 41 heifers cashed in at 218.1p and reached 375kg for a Charolais and £880 for 405kg Limousin crosses all from Daleigh. 
An Aberdeen-Angus cross weighing 385kg from Pitcandlich, Glenkindie, topped the 15 young bulls at 207.8p, while the 21 OTMs reached 164.3p for a 560kg Simmental cross from Roadside of Auchinderran, Keith, and £1290 for a 790kg Limousin cross from Cairncoullie, Glenkindie.

A MIXED show for quality was forward at Harrison and Hetherington’s fortnightly sale of store cattle at St Boswells. 
Leading the trade at £1140 was a pen of Simmental cross bullocks from Messrs Hall, New Blainslie, while Messrs Connon, Greenknowe, topped the pence per kg at 231.6p twice for a pen of Limousin crosses and a pen of Charolais crosses. 
Heifers also reached £1070 from Saughtree to average 205p, while bullocks cashed in at 217.4p and also sold to 231.6p for a pen of Charolais cross bullocks from Messrs Phaup, Hoprigshiels.

Black and white bullocks peaked at £1000 from Summerhouse Farm, to average 157p.

Top price per kg was 254p paid for a pen of Charolais from D Steel and Son, East Whitesykes, West Calder, and £1180 for Simmentals from A L & J Blair, East Kerse, Lochwinnoch. 
Heifers sold to 236p for a Limousin from K and A Graham, Easterton, Doune and to £1170 for a Limousin from A and J Orr and Son, Hill of Harthill, Harthill. 
Black and Whites averaged 148p and sold to 167p and £770 per head from I McMaster, Knocknain, Leswalt.

Caithness
SOME 588 store cattle and 12 head of breeding cattle were sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ Quoybrae centre on Monday.
Bullocks (351) sold to 232.5p per kg for a pen of five 486kg Limousin crosses from A A Younger, Hoy, Castletown and £1520 for a 694kg Limousin from DA Budge, Brae Edge, Castletown.
Heifers (237) hit a top of 250.6p for a pen of five 451kg Simmental crosses from ND Brims, Brabsterdorran Mains, Bower and £1190 for a 541kg Limousin cross from RR Mackay and Co Ltd, Rattar Mains, Dunnett.
Champion in the pre-sale show judged by Ian Ross, Ankerville, Nigg Station, was a 621kg Limousin cross bullock from DA Budge, Braeedge, Castletown which sold for £1520 to Caithness Livestock Breeders, Thurso.
The reserve, a 662kg Charolais cross bullock from the same home made £1450 to W and J Cameron, Burnside of Edingight, Grange.

A SMALLER than normal store sale at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’  Thainstone Centre saw 137 cattle and six young calves forward.
Bullocks (61) sold to 252.7p per kg for a pen of four 368kg Aberdeen Angus from Cairntack, Belhelvie and £1325 for a 622kg British Blue Cross from 2 Bogie Street, Huntly.
Heifers (73) peaked at 231.1p per kg for a 450kg British Blue Cross from Backmuir,
Keith and £1100 for a pair of 530kg Limousin Crosses from Pittenkerrie, Glassel.
Bulls (three) sold to 212.4p per kg for a 386kg Limousin Cross and £1080 for a 548kg Limousin Cross both from South Crichie, St Katherines.
The firm’s sale of 686 ewes with lambs at foot, store lambs and feeding sheep saw the former sell to £55 per head for Cheviots from Edgars Glen, New Deer.
New seasons store lambs (16) peaked at £81 for Dorsets from Fernview, Strachan and the 638 feeding ewes and rams sold to £107 for Suffolks from The Bothy, Cairnorchies.
