Carlisle
TRADE proved to be a little sharper throughout at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale, where smaller cattle in particular sold sharper on the week among the 432 stores. 

They peaked at £1360 for a Charolais cross bullock from Messrs Jefferson, Aspatria Hall, Wigton, with heifers to £1195 for a pair of Limousin crosses from Messrs Coates, Beckhall, Canonbie. Dairy sorts reached £1045 for four Friesians from Messrs Moscrop, Rye Close, Carlisle. 

The entry of 268 weaned cattle included 140 bull stirks and it was a run of Limousin bulls from Messrs Roe, Croft House, that topped at £1185 three times having averaged £1108. Messrs Noble, Walmgate, sold Limousin crosses to £990 for bullocks and £970 for heifers.

Stirling (UA)
CHAROLAIS crosses led most sections at United Auctions’ sale of 475 store cattle, last week, where 218 bullocks averaged 208.2p per kg with 225 heifers at 199.4p. 

Bullocks reached 237.2p and £1295 for Charolais crosses weighing 430kg and 592kg, respectively, from Mid Knockglass, while a heifer of the same breeding weighing 606kg from Gillmill made £1255. Heifers also reached 228.6p for a 420kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from West Parl. The 32 dairy-bred bullocks levelled at 134.1p having sold to 141.3p and £650 for one weighing 474kg from High Craichmore. 

A Limousin cross from Carslae topped the cast cow offering at 182.6p while a Charolais cross from Todpark made £1490. The 107 beef-bred cows averaged 132.7p while 19 dairy-bred cows levelled at 88.9p and sold to 103.8p from Wester Lochdrum as well as £845 from Norrieston.

St Boswells
A SMALL offering of store cattle sold through Harrison and Hetherington, last week, where grazing cattle were easier to cash. 

Bullocks sold to £1140 for a pen of Aberdeen-Angus from Messrs Steel, Ayton Cocklaw, while Charolais heifers from Headshaw led the price per kg at 220p. Overall, bullocks averaged 211.4p with heifers at 200.92p.

THERE was a catalogued entry of 101 store cattle at Hope’s Auction Co’s recent sale which saw a good trade throughout and a top price of £1245 paid for a British Blue heifer from J and D Wilson and Son, Wheyrigg. 
Bullocks sold to £1195 for more of the same from Messrs Wharton, Snade.

WITH a large ringside of buyers present, more store cattle could have been sold to advantage at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' event, where averages improved on the difficult trading experienced the previous the week, as 56 bullocks averaged 216.9p per kg (+6.9p) and 32 heifers levelled at 209.4p (+3.5p). 

Topping the entry at 245p was a pair of 400kg Charolais bullocks from Carlton House, Aberlour, with bullocks also topping the gross trade at £1430 for a 636kg Simmental cross from Rockyden, Meikle Wartle. Heifers hit 221p for a 466kg Limousin cross from West Sandend, Cruden Bay, and £1190 for a 554kg Aberdeen-Angus from Mosshead Aquithie, Kemnay. Young bulls (11) sold to 167.9p for a 396kg Limousin from Auchencrieve, Methlick, and £730 for a 484kg Aberdeen-Angus from Greens of Burgie, Rafford.

The 11 breeding cattle peaked at £1800 for a Limousin cross cow with heifer calf from Woodend, Muir of Ord. 

Also forward were 17 store lambs which reached £58.50 for Suffolks from Little Flobbits, Drumwhindle, while the 480 feeding sheep sold to £112 for Texels from Brekkavidur, Sandness.

DESPITE the grass shortage, trade was upbeat through C and D Auction Marts when 82 bullocks levelled at 206.2p per kg with 20 heifers at 183.5p; 17 Holstein bullocks at 132.6p and three young bulls at 190p. 

Selling for the top price of £1205 were Aberdeen-Angus bullocks from Howes, with heifers to £960 for Charolais from Hillhead.

SELLING through Caledonian Marts, on Monday, were 275 store and breeding cattle.

The small offering of breeders peaked at £1450 for a Simmental cow with calf from AT Mitchell and Son, Nether Glinns, Fintry. 

Store cattle reached 232p per kg for a British Blonde bullock from AG Finlay, Strathavon, Slamannan, and £1070 for Beef Shorthorns stots from Laigh Skeoch, Stirling. Bullocks averaged 205p. Averaging 199p, the heifer entry sold to 211p for a Limousin from S Graham, Parkhouse, Crieff, and £1040 for Aberdeen-Angus from T Young, Glencraigs. Dairy-bred bullocks averaged 148p, having sold to 161p and £850 from Laigh Skeoch.
