AT United Auctions' sale of 834 store cattle and 180 cast cows, 443 bullocks averaged 209.65p having sold to 242p per kg for a 438kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Westerton, and £1370 for a 710kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Lower Luthrie.

The 322 heifers averaged 204.35p, selling to 244.60p for a 276kg Charolais cross from Auchentiber, and £1310 for a 642kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Whitfield.

Dairy bullocks (31) averaged 159.31p, with a top price of £1090 and 190.20p per kg paid for a 573kg Montbeliarde cross from Woodend.

Young bulls were topped at 239.40p per kg for a British Blue cross from Easter Greenhill, and £1170 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Glenshochie, with the 38 sold cashing in at 204.69p.

Leading the beef cow entry at 177.30p was a Limousin from Woodhead of Mailer, while a British Blue cross from Kepculloch produced the top price per had at £1370. The average for 159 head was 114.91p, while the 21 dairy cows averaged 89.02p. Top price here was 120.30p per kg for a Holstein Friesian cross from High Branchal, and £895 for a Holstein Friesian cross from High Branchal.

The firm also sold 1447 store and breeding sheep to £81 for Suffolks from Hartfield.

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 728 sheep of all classes, at their sale last week where 536 store lambs averaged £63.63 having sold to £83.50 for a pen of Cheviots from Davoch, Rogart.

The 184 ewes averaged £45.01 from a lead price of £69 paid for Cheviots from Drumore, Evanton.

Topping the entry of eight rams which averaged £66.19, was a Bluefaced Leicester from 134 West Langwell, Rogart, at £110.

Craig Wilson sold 411 store cattle in Ayr, when all classes sold sharper on the previous sale, with 190 bullocks averaging 209.3p per kg or £962.18 head, 49 Friesian bullocks at 139.5p per kg or £705.82, and 172 heifers at 204.5p per kg or £879.56.

Top price was £1305 paid for a pen Blonde heifers from Knockneen or 242p per kg for a pen of Limousin heifers from Lawhill.

Bullocks were topped at £1260 for a Limousin from Ballycurrie or 254.7p per kg for Limousins from Cairnwhin. Friesian Bullocks sold to £920 from Drongan House or 152.8p per kg from High Garphar.

Also forward were 605 store hoggs, where all classes exceeded last sales high rates, and would be £4-£5 dearer. Top price was £87 for a pen of 28 Suffolk hoggs from T McMillan, Eskechraggen, Rothesay, and £87 for Suffolks from Torbeg Farms.

AT Newton Stewart, Craig Wilson sold 147 store cattle which met an increased demand.

Steers peaked at £1100 on two occasions, firstly for a pair of Limousin crosses from Neil McIntyre, West Drummoddie, and later for Aberdeen Angus from Ian Irving, Creechan Park.

Top price per kg amongst the steers was 263.2p for Limousins from W Gemmell, Holm, Kirkcowan.

Heifers sold to £1000 for Aberdeen Angus from Ian Irving, Creechan Parks, and 229p per kg for Charolais crosses from J Crawfurd, South Boreland.

Leading the dairy-bred steers at £775 was a pen of Friesians from H Young, Claunch, while black and whites from W Gemmell, Holm, Kirkcowan, made 173p per kg.

The 77 beef bullocks averaged 214p per kg, 54 heifers cashed in at 195.4p, and 22 dairy-bred steers at 163.p.

SOME 867 store cattle were sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts, where 485 bullocks averaged 220.3p, +0.4p on the week) and 362 heifers levelled at 213.2p (+5.1p).

Charolais topped the bullocks at 274.5p per kg for a pair of 368kg entries from Cairnbeathie, Lumphanan, and £1430 for a pair of 756kg stots from Newtonhill, Clatt.

It was another Charolais that topped the pence per kg amongst the heifers when a 304kg entry from Upper Forgie, Keith, made 287.8p, while three 584kg Simmentals topped the gross trade at £1380 for Thurdistoft, Castletown.

Aberdeen Angus led the young bull entry of 20 which averaged 220p, at 261.6p per kg for four 346kg bulls and £1150 for a 582kg entry, all from Drumforber, Laurencekirk.

Orkney and Shetland bullocks sold to 210p for a 262kg Shorthorn from Aith, Cunningsburgh, and £1370 for a 670kg Charolais from Spring Valley, Stronsay. Heifers peaked at 231.1p for a 450kg Charolais from Beafield, Sanday and £1170 for a 554kg Charolais from Spring Valley.

A busy day also saw 1065 store lambs change hands, selling to £86 for Cheviots from Glenfinnan, while the 371 island lambs peaked at £98 for Beltex from Strathore.

The 189 grit gimmers and ewes forward hit £128 for Mule gimmers from Braeside Croft, Upper Oldwhat.
