AT UNITED Auctions' sale of 1325 store cattle, 166 cast cows and 1011 store sheep, 789 bullocks averaged 212.55p per kg having sold to 256p for a 343kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Craigowmill, and £1310 for a 684kg Angus cross from Gateside.

Heifers (508) averaged 199.48p with a top price of 225p paid for a 276kg Angus cross from Berryhill, and £1325 for a 712kg Angus from the same home.

A Charolais cross from Pitcairn topped the entry of 16 young bulls which levelled at 159.29p, having sold at 213.2p and £985.

Limousins led the beef cow entry of 145 head with an entry from Bouprie selling at 198.20p and another from West Park making £1430. They averaged 128.88p while the 21 dairy types cashed in at 98.60p from a lead bid of 124.6p for a Holstein cross from Kepculloch.

Suffolks from Redhall topped the 1011 store sheep at £77.50.

Thainstone

SOME 1044 store cattle to include 588 bullocks which averaged 223p per kg and 492 heifers that levelled at 213.1p per sold through Aberdeen and Northern Marts' last week.

Bullocks sold to 285.3p for 382kg Limousin crosses from Balgairn, Ballater and £1360 for a 758kg Charolais from Corfeidly, Glassel, while heifers peaked at 259p for a 390kg Limousin again from Balgairn and £1290 for another 684kg entry of the same breed from Braeside.

Eight bulls sold to 220.8p for a 394kg Charolais from Johnston Mains, Laurencekirk, and £1000 for a 532kg Aberdeen Angus from Strathorn, Pitcaple.

Also forward were 703 ewes with lambs at foot, grit ewes and store lambs which peaked at £100 for Texel cross ewes from Arndilly, Craigellachie.

Store lambs sold to £73 for continentals from Bogmill, Pitcaple and for Suffolks from 24 High St, Archiestown, with island lambs to £75.50 for Suffolks from Perth, Westray.

THERE were 510 store cattle forward at Craig Wilson’s sale where 269 bullocks averaged 205.7p per kg or £908.83 per head, with 26 Friesian bullocks averaging 138.8p or £617.31.

Top price was £1260 paid for Aberdeen-Angus bullocks from Slatehole and 240p for Charolais from Auchenhew, Arran.

Heifers peaked at £1220 for a Limousin from Newfield, Newmilns, or 228.7p for more of the same from Little Creoch. The 215 heifers levelled at 194.6p or £860.70.

A smaller show of 428 store sheep saw top price of £84 on two occasions – firstly for Suffolk hoggs from Messrs McFadzean, Barneil, and secondly for Texels from Messrs Andrew, South Threave.

MORE than 2500 head of sheep of all classes was forward for Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale where 1449 lambs averaged £54.49 having sold to £80 twice for pens of Texel crosses from Wester Moy, Urray and 134 West Langwell, Rogart.

The firm’s show and sale of Blackface females saw 13 sold with the championship awarded to an in-lamb ewe from Hillhead of Morinsh. A daughter of a £1500 Elmscleugh, she sold carrying twins to Allanfauld Bullseye, for£1000 to William Stewart, Bomakelloch.

The reserve, an in-lamb gimmer from Midlock, Crawford, was a daughter of a £100,000 Elmscleugh and sold carrying twins by Midlock Hawkeye, for £600 to E Fraser, Balgowan, Laggan.

The Bluefaced Leicester section was topped at £700 by a Midlock ewe hogg by a Greenhow sire.

Limousin cross bullocks from Messrs Stuart, Belnoe, Glenlivet, came up trumps to win the champion and reserve honours at United Auctions' show and sale of 1104 cattle.

Their top two winners which scaled in at 465kg and 480kg respectively, both realised £1170.

Overall, 681 bullocks averaged 216.95p per kg, having sold to 284.7p for Charolais from Wedderburn, and £1350 for Charolais crosses from Mosstown, Kinnoir.

Heifers (378) levelled at 216.3p with a top of 281.7p per kg paid for Limousin crosses from Edendiack, Gartly, and £1240 for more of the same from Tochineal, Cullen.

ON Monday, C and D Auction Marts held their fortnightly sale of store cattle where 128 bullocks averaged 208.5p per kg having sold to 242.7p per kg and £1195 per head, while 68 heifers averaged 195.7p, and reached 241p per kg and £1155.

The six bulls forward averaged 221.1p per kg after selling to 237.8p and £900.

Despite the poor fat trade, store cattle were well bid for at Harrison and Hetherington's store cattle sale on Tuesday where two Aberdeen Angus bullocks from W Henderson, Cleughbrae Mill, topped the trade at £1135.

Top price per kg was 267p paid for eight-month-old bullocks from Messrs Johnston, Kimmeter Green, with the overall bullock average working out at 212p.

Heifers were led by a pair from DA Wilson, Belzies, at £1080, or 227p for more of the same from Mosshead Farm.
