AT Wooler, Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly primestock sale when hoggs sold to £98 for Texels from Broadlaw, and 189p per kg for North Country Cheviots from South Dissington.

Ewes sold to £109 for Texels from Blakehope, while rams peaked at £87 for a Suffolk from Edlingham, Demesne.

Dumfries

THE eight prime cattle forward at C and D Auction Marts’ sale met a competitive trade, selling to 230p per kg for a Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, Yett, and to £1148 for a Limousin from Burnside.

Prime hoggs (417) sold to £96 for Texels from Druidhall and to 224p per kg from Lanarkland.

Penrith

LAST Wednesday, Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart sold 2046 prime hoggs and 782 cast ewes and rams, where an SQQ average of 215p per kg was achieved.

Topping the sale at 278p per kg, £111, was a pen of 11 Texel hoggs, weighing 40kgs, from Messrs Lightfoot, Gillside.

Cast ewes and rams averaged £77.50, with Texel ewes selling to £138 twice, both from Greystone House.

Forfar

LAWRIE and Symington had forward 24 prime cattle and 511 prime sheep.

Bullocks (10) sold to 246p per kg for a 595kg Limousin from Mill of Inverarity and to £1489.44 for a 642kg Limousin from the Gask, to average 234p.

Heifers (14) reached 248p for a 525kg Limousin from Nethermyres and £1416.96 for a 576kg Limousin from West Bog.

Prime hoggs (453) peaked at 251.8p and £107 for 42.5kg Beltex from Balbrydie. The SQQ average was 190.2p, (-0.2p).

Cockermouth

MITCHELLS Livestock Centre had forward 24 cull cattle, 19 prime bulls and clean cattle, 1208 hoggs and 307 cast ewes and rams at it's weekly prime sale where Limousins led the cattle trade.

Topping the cattle at 210.5p per kg was a heifer from GL Hutton, Setmabanning, while lead price per head was £1339.34 paid for a bull from Messrs Teasdale, Lowside.

A good show of hoggs saw the SQQ average rise 4p on the week to 185.3p with a top price of 273.8p paid for Texel hoggs from R Percival, Risehow, or £121 for more of the same from WS Jackson, Nook.

Huntly

Beltex weighing 36kg and 55kg Bleu Du Maines from Windyfield Croft, Rhynie and Clatequoy, Thurso, topped United Auctions's sale of 1402 old season lambs at 211p per kg and £90 per head, respectively.

Ewes (1007) sold to £130 for Suffolks from The Cottage, while rams peaked at £90 for Suffolks from Cloves.

Longtown

CAST cows and bulls sold to a brisk trade at C and D Auction Marts’ Longtown sale, selling to 171p for an 810kg British Blue cow from R and RA Pattinson, Temon, Brampton.

The 4798 prime hoggs saw trade rise 3p per kg on the week to average 191.2p overall with an SQQ of 197.8p.

Top price was 310p for Beltex hoggs from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Crieff and £121 again for Beltex hoggs from Messrs Taylor, J Buchan, Torrax, Forfar.

Cast ewes and rams (4501) met a top of £164 for Texel ewes from J and J Dunlop, Searigg, Carrutherstown.

Stirling (Cal)

CALEDONIAN Marts sold 93 prime cattle and 85 OTM cattle, as well as 33 young calves at it's weekly sale

Prime heifers sold to 245p per kg for Limousins from W Dandie and Son, Learielaw, Broxburn, and to £1536 for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, and a Charolais from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill.

Bullocks sold to 240p and £1564 for a Limousin again from Learielaw.

The same breed topped the young bull section at 202p and £1349 from W Dick and Sons, Mains of Throsk, Throsk.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 1547 prime hoggs, ewes and tups, where old season lambs averaged 191.7p per kg, up 17.5p on the week.

Top price was £112 paid for a 48kg Beltex from Doune Farms, West Lundie, and 257p per kg for 40kg Beltex from JB Guthrie, Cuiltburn.

Thainstone

Limousins led the way at Aberdeen and Northern Marts sale of 45 prime cattle producing the top prices in the bullock and heifers sections.

The nine bullocks which averaged 189.2p sold to 211p per kg for a 560kg entry from Whiteside, Tullynessle, and £1380 for a 690kg animal from Mains of Dumbreck, Udny, while the 24 heifers peaked at 230p for a 550kg entry from Stoneyhill, Keithhall and £1402.50 for a 750kg beast from West Knock. They averaged 196.5p.

A 630kg Charolais cross from Braefoot, Shapinsay, topped the young bulls at 183p per kg, with a 825kg Aberdeen Angus from Mains of Tonley, Alford, producing the lead price per head at £1328.25. The four young bulls averaged 168.7p.

Old season lambs (2344) averaged 183.3p per kg having sold to 268.4p for 38kg Beltex from Sheep Park, Bridge of Marnoch and £106 for 61kg Texels from Nistagar, Harray. The SQQ for 1132 head was 198.3.

Feeding ewes and rams (1087) sold to £136.50 for pure Suffolks from Milltown of Birness, Ellon.

The firm also held their show and sale of Beltex-sired lambs where the championship was awarded to Rory Gregor, Ranch House Cottage, Thainstone, for a pair of 47kg Beltex that realised £150 per head or 319p per kg.

Reserve was a pair of 41kg Beltex from J Young, Muirton, Corse, which made £114 per head or 278p per kg.

Lanark

ON Monday, Lawrie and Symington had forward 39 prime cattle, 51 cast cows and bulls, 31 calves, and 2940 hoggs and 630 cast ewes at its weekly sale.

A Limousin from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, topped the price per kg section at 250p, while Todhall led the price per head section at £1536.

Sold season lambs sold to £116 twice for Texel and Beltex from R and M Struthers, Collielaw, and to 275p per kg for Beltex from Messrs Anderson, Old Walls. The overall average was 185p per kg with an SQQ of 195p.

Ewes were topped at £163 by Texels from Messrs Gibson, Cowgrove with rams to £114 for Texels from Yeldabreck.

Ayr

SOME 1270 prime hoggs and 618 cast ewes and tups went through Craig Wilson’s ring at Ayr. The SQQ average was 200.9p, while the whole sale averaged 180.2p.

Top price of the day was £100 for Beltex from M Stevenson, Balcaimie, or 225.6p for another pen of Beltex from John McFadzean and Co, Broadshean.

Cast sheep (618) sold to £143 for four Texel ewes from J Kerr, Dalreoch Est, Colmonell, while rams peaked at £122 for a Beltex from the same home.

St Boswells

Prime hoggs improved on the week by 11.1p per kg at Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly sale at St Boswells which saw 74 clean cattle, 39 cast cows, 1186 hoggs and 184 ewes forward.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 204.52p and 212.89p, respectively having sold to 248p and £1507.84 for entries from Bee Edge.

Cast cows peaked at £1170.12 from Huntington and 161p again from Huntington and Wester Middleton, to average 124.58p (+5p).

A sharper trade amongst the hoggs saw averages level at 193.8p, from a top price of 263.6p for Beltex from Threeburnford and £116 per head for more of the same, again from Threeburnford.

Ewes peaked at £125 for Texels from Stickle Heaton, to average £67. Heavy ewes levelled at £83 and lights at £53.

Carlisle

ON Monday, Harrison and Hetherington sold 44 prime steers and heifers to a top price of £1690.28 and 234.5p per kg for a Limousin cross heifer from DA Harrison, Hill House, Wigton.

Steers sold to £1669.57 from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton.

A smaller show of 258 cast cows and stock bulls hit a top of 169.5p for a 772kg entry from DA Harrison, Hill House while the 65 bulls sold to £1920.62 for a Charolais from Messrs Goldie, Greenfield, Annan.

A sharp drop in numbers from the previous week, saw just 1496 sheep forward where old season lambs sold to 297p per kg and £118.80 per head for a Beltex cross from Messrs Harrington, Sleightholme.

Cast ewes and rams were topped by a Dutch Texel ewe from Messrs Mounsey, Laversdale, at £117.50.

Castle Douglas

SOME 1179 prime and cast sheep were forward at Wallets Marts’ sale on Tuesday where the 941 prime hoggs sold to average 192.44p with an SQQ of 199.46p.

Top price was £107 paid for a Beltex from Messrs Campbell, Carsewalloch, Creetown, while top per kg was 258.8p for export weight Beltex from the same home.

The 339 Blackface hoggs sold to £84.50 three times – from Chirmorrie, Barrhill and for two pens from Knockdon, Straiton.

Cast sheep peaked at £90.50 for a Bluefaced Leicester from Nether Barr, while Blackfaces sold to £56.50 from Midtown.

Dingwall

PRICES improved on the week in all sections at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 29 prime cattle and 1362 sheep, where heifers averaged 211.1p per kg, up 13.2p, bullocks cashed in at 202.9p, up 1.6p and the old season lamb average levelled at 186.4p, a rise of 6.0p, while the SQQ rose 5.2p to 189.9p.

Top price per kg amongst the cattle was 230.0p paid for a 615kg Limousin cross from Easter Strath of Auchterflow and £1414.50 for the same animal. Bullocks peaked at 213.0p for a 595kg Limousin cross from the same home, with a 640kg entry of the same breed from Teawig, Beauly taking the lead gross price at £1305.60.

Torgorm, Conon Bridge, sold the lead priced lambs at 224.5p per kg with 41kg Beltex crosses while 58kg Beltex crossed from Upperton, Balnain, produced the lead price per head at £99.

Feeding sheep (102) sold to £95 for a Texel cross ewe from Inveruglas, Kingussie.
