Applications are being sought for a new chair of Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) and up to four members of the board.

The appointments, made by Scottish Ministers, will each be for a four-year period. The new chair and one board member will take up their appointments on September 1, 2018, and the other new board members will take up their appointments on April 1, 2019.

The overall strategy of QMS is to shape a sustainable and prospering Scottish red meat industry. QMS is the public body responsible for the promotion and protection of three of Scotland’s most iconic food brands – Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb and Specially Selected Pork. These brands are underpinned by unique whole-of-chain and whole-of-life assurance schemes offering traceability, brand integrity and world class levels of quality assurance.

The QMS board is comprised of a diverse mix of high calibre individuals, passionate about the future of the Scottish red meat sector. The board consists of up to 12 members, including the chair, currently Jim McLaren. Mr McLaren was last year awarded an MBE for his “outstanding contributions to Scottish agriculture and the rural economy.” He was appointed as chair of QMS in April, 2011, and was reappointed, following his initial four-year term, in 2015.

The deadline for applications is April 16, 2018. For further information on the roles and how to apply can be found at the public appointment website: www.appointed-for-scotland.org.
