HALF-BRED and Cheviot Mule gimmers sold particularly well with the top-end of Mules also keenly bid for at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ recent sale of 3325 breeding gimmers through Thainstone.
Topping the entry at £172 was a pen of 30 Half-breds from South Blachrie, Fyvie, with the same home selling a pen of 32 Down crosses for £132, a price matched by a pen of nine from Cairnton, Techmuiry.
Other breeds reached £170 for a pen of 35 Mules from Kirkland, Forgue, with a pen of 20 Cheviot Mules from Carroch, Kirriemuir, at £165. Cheviots sold to £160 for a pen of 42 from Bruceland, Elgin, and continentals peaked at £155 twice – firstly for a pen of three from Minard, Kirriemuir, and again for a pair from Bogiefeulach, Tornaveen.
Overall, the 222 Half-breds sold to set the best average of £152.90 (+£6.60 on the year); 75 Cheviots averaged £142.91 (-£11.63); 235 Cheviot Mules levelled at £138.19 (+£2.40); 2381 Mules averaged £132.67 (+£1.76); 332 continentals averaged £127.55 (+£16.01); and 80 Down crosses levelled at £121.75 (+£15.45).
