CRAIG Wilson sold 1774 store lambs through Ayr, last week, which sold £3-£4 sharper than the previous week to average £57.82.

Dingwall
STORE lambs were shown in good bloom and all classes sold well from start to finish at the first of Dingwall and Highland Marts’ two-day sales of store lambs, last week, where 10,225 were on offer.
Cheviot lambs averaged £49.51, a rise of £5.24 on the year, and sold to £70 for a pen of ewe lambs from Balnacuile, Spinningdale, with wedders to £69 from Longreens Croft, Thrumster.
The following day the firm sold 5541 store lambs as well as 1133 lambs from Lewis Livestock Producers, where all classes sold at extreme rates with the exception of small Blackface lambs which were more hesitant.
Leading the main entry at £77 were Texel crosses from Park Farm, Strathpeffer, with the 1866 Texel cross lambs selling to average £60.50 (+£10.84).
Other breeds saw 1094 Cheviot wedders average £48.32 (+£5.49) and sell to £66.50 from Pitmain, Kingussie; the 158 Cheviot ewe lambs averaged £39.69 (-90p) and hit £55 from Tigh Beag, Achterneed; Suffolk crosses (1430) levelled at £56.54 (+£8.17) and sold to £69.50 from Garbeg, Drumnadrochit; 174 continental crosses averaged £64.47 (+£10.42) and reached £64.50 from Fairview, Nethybridge; Blackfaces (449) averaged £29.68 (-52p) and sold to £52 from 1 Obbe Road, Leverburgh, Isle of Harris and 370 cross lambs averaged £45.65 (+£6.70) and sold to £58 gross twice – from Ensay, Leverburgh, Isle of Harris, and Dulsie Farm, Glenferness.
Of the LLP lambs it was cross lambs from 10 Valtos, Uig, that topped at £63.50 having averaged £43.26 for 221 sold.

A LARGE entry of store lambs met a sound demand at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ recent sale of 6781 store lambs, breeding and feeding sheep which included consignments from the islands.
Store lambs (1998) peaked at £85.50 for Texel rigs from Mille of Whitehill, New Deer, with the 3353 store lambs from the islands to £80 for Suffolks from Ringesta, Quendale.
Suffolk rams from Lonabrek, Aith, led the 762 island sheep at £107 while the main entry of 668 feeding sheep sold to £117 for Texel tups from Eildon, Tankerness, with ewes to £101.50 for Texels from Upper Kirkton, Dyce.

AN excellent show of quality lambs sold well at United Auctions’s Islay mart, last week, where a total entry of 3290 lambs and sheep saw lambs cash in to average £57.78  or 163.5p per kg, up £7.62 per head or 25.48p per kg on the year.
Selling for the top price of £74.50 were Suffolk crosses from a McArthur, Lossit, while Messrs Johnstone, Balaclaca Croft, sold Texel crosses for 185p.
Cast ewes reached £74.50 for Texels from Carn.

Dalmally
UNITED Auctions welcomed the largest entry of lambs in the last 20 years to Dalmally, with entries forward from Lochaber to the north and Kintyre to south Argyll, Perthshire, Stirlingshire and the islands, as well as the annual consignments from the catchment area of Argyllshire.
Judging the pens of Blackface lambs was Ian Reid, Isle Cottage, Methven, who picked out a pen from Messrs Buchanan, Achnaba, Connel, as his champion and later bought it for £58 per head to lead the Blackie lamb trade.
The second prize pen from GL and D Reid, South Park, Perthshire, made £56 while the third prize pen from Clachan Farms, Kilninver, realised £55.
Overall, the 8757-strong entry of top, second and third draw Blackies levelled out at £38.52 or 139.98p per kg at 27.5kg (-£1.64 or +7.94p for 2.9kg lighter on the year), with top draw lambs lacking last year’s flesh and weight.
Combined with 1776 cross-bred lambs, the sale averaged £39.70 or 145.76p with crosses selling to £67.50 for Cheviots from Cour Grazings.

SOME 1000 store lambs sold through C and D Auction Marts recently, where a show of lambs was judged by David and Hannah Sloan.
Their winning pen of Texels from Messrs Halliday, Capelfoot, later sold for £67 but it was a pen of Mules from Hillend that topped at £68.50.

alongside the sale of Blackface ewe lambs, Lawrie and Symington held its annual show and sale of Blackface and Cheviot wedder lambs which was judged by WY Shearer, Burnbrae.
His champion pen of Cheviots from Messrs Paton, Castle Crawford, went on to sell for £66 while his winning pen of Blackies from Messrs Mcintosh, Outer Huntly, realised £63.50.
But selling for the top price of £69.50 were Suffolk crosses from Ampherlaw.

A GOOD show of lambs was forward at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ Quoybrae centre on Monday where all classes increased in value on the fortnight.
The 1565 store lambs levelled at £61.98 and sold to £75.50 for a pen of 110 Texels from North Calder, Thurso, while the 226 ewe lambs averaged £62.40 and peaked at £90 for Cheviots from Lynton Cottage, Ulbster.
Also forward were 304 prime lambs which reached 171.4p for a pen of 25 Suffolks weighing 42kg from 5 West Murkle, Thurso, and £80 for three 50kg Texels from Cairnside, 36 Oldhall, Watten.

HARRISON and Hetherington had a catalogued entry of 1210 Hill and North Country Cheviot lambs on Tuesday, where the average rose by £2 on the year.
Judging the pre-sale show of Cheviot wedders was David Cornthwaite, Lockerbie, who bought his winning pen from Stirkfield Farms, Broughton, for the top price of £60 per head.
