SELLING through United Auctions, last week, were 1197 store cattle which peaked at 261.2p per kg for a Charolais cross heifer weighing 356kg from Pokellyhill.
Heifers (455) also reached £1270 for a 574kg Limousin cross from Bencloich and averaged 211.98p.
Bullocks hit a top of 260p for a 325kg Limousin cross from Easterton and £1310 for a 621kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Balgreggie. They averaged 216.73p for 669, with the 173 dairy bullocks at 143.76p having reached 162.8p from Midhouse and £860 from Balegreggan.
A Limousin cross from Newton of Logierait topped the 123 cast cows at 188.3p and £1350. The 112 beef cows averaged 129.84 with 11 dairy cows at 100.05p.

TRADE was firmer at Craig Wilson’s sale of 696 store cattle, last week, where 363 bullocks averaged 214.5p per kg or £998.69 with 95 dairy bullocks at 143.8p or £671.79 and 238 heifers at 209.7p or £895.21.
Selling for the top price of 257.1p was a pen of Limousin bullocks from Crosslees with bullocks also hitting £1340 for a Charolais from Pinwherry while dairy types sold to 176.6p and £1140 for a pair from Cooperhill.
Pinwherry also led the heifer section at £1180 for a Charolais while Baluskie sold a Limousin at 257p.

Dingwall

DINGWALL and Highland Marts sold 151 store cattle alongside 31 breeding and 70 OTM cattle through Dingwall last week, where a mixed show of stores sold at satisfactory rates.
They reached 233p per kg for a pair of 352kg Limousin cross bullocks from Midburn, Lochussie, with the 69 bullocks also selling to £1380 for a pen of 707kg Shorthorn crosses from Balliefurth, Grantown on Spey.
A pen of 271kg Limousin crosses from Achlain Estates, Glenmoriston, led the 80 heifers at 214p with a 655kg Simmental cross from Mortlach, Kiltarlity, at £1270.
A British Blue cross cow with her Simmental-sired male calf at foot from 27 Portgower, Helmsdale, led the breeding cattle at £1600.
Averaging 124.7p, the 65 cast cows peaked at 194.6p for a Limousin cross from 1 Eyre, Portree, and £1150 for a 780kg Simmental cross from Daviot Mains, Daviot.

STORE cattle maintained recent high rates at Craig Wilson’s first September sale of 213 last week.
Selling for the top price of 243.9p per kg were Limousin bullocks from W Gemmell and Son, Holm, Kirkcowan, with bullocks also selling to £1120 for Limousins from  Templeton, 7 South Balfern. The 81 beef-bred bullocks levelled at 207.6p or £870.82 with 36 dairy bullocks at 144p or £614.89 and to a top of 150.5p and £700 from H Young and Co, Claunch.
Heifers (96) cashed in to average 206p or £850.05, having hit a top of 243.3p for Limousins from Holm and £1045 for a British Blue from J Baillie, Low Glasnick.

WEANED calves were an excellent show and met a fast selling trade at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 736 store cattle, last week, where a pre-sale show of weaned calves was judged by Hamish Booth, Nether Mains, Torphins.
He picked out a 524kg Charolais cross bullock from J Stuart, Belnoe, Chapeltown, as his champion which later realised £1360 while the heifer champion, a 410kg Charolais from RA Milne, Kennieshillock, Lhanbryde, sold for £1100.
Overall, weaned calves sold to 262.3p per kg for a 366kg Charolais cross bullock from Marchmar, Lumsden, with bullocks also reaching £1300 for a 564kg Limousin cross from Nether Muirskie, Maryculter.
The 134 weaned bullocks levelled at 237.2p (+7.2p on the year) with the 114 heifer calves at 227.4p (+6.4p), having hit tops of 251.2p for a pair of Limmy crosses from Belnoe, Chapeltown, and £1200 for a 530kg Charolais from Cairntack, Belhelvie.
Store cattle sold to 252.2p for a pair of 230kg Charolais heifers from Ardioch, Keith, with heifers also selling to £1290 for a pair of 588kg Simmental crosses from Backhill of Culbirnie, Banff. They averaged 210.7p (-5p on the week) for 227 sold.
Bullocks (258) averaged 215.2p (-2.7p) and sold to 246.1p for a pair of 384kg Limousin crosses from Pineview, Fowlershill, and £1430 for a 670kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Commonty, New Deer

CALEDONIAN Marts sold 624 store cattle at its annual autumn show and sale of native-bred cattle on Tuesday, where J Brown, of Gaindykehead, Airdrie, was the judge.
WA MacKinnon, of West Dron, Bridge of Earn, picked up the champion and reserve tickets with Shorthorn bullocks which both realised £1240 to top the trade.
Shorthorn bullocks (166) also reached 228p per kg for a pen from MD and SA Clarke, Williamswood, Lockerbie, and levelled at 208p while the 53 Shorthorn heifers averaged 192p and sold to 217p for a pen from W Taylor and Son, Wester Pirleyhill, Sheildhill, and £1120 from A Dawson and Son, Beannie, Braco.
Aberdeen-Angus bullocks (63) sold to average 212p and peaked at 227p for a pen from AG and ME Bateman, Langholm, Southend, and £1100 for a pen from W Bateman, Easter Coilechat, Callander, while 39 Angus heifers levelled at 208p and sold to 214p from W Shearer, Burnbrae, Strathaven, and £1000 from J Crawford, Reivoch, Howwood.
Other natives reached 236p and £860 for a pen of Whitebred Shorthorn bullocks from Forestry Commission Scotland, with these 40 averaging 222p; Luing bullocks (31) averaged 200p and reached 212p from IC Christie and Co, Gartlea, Gartocharn, and £920 from R Black, East Green, Kilmacolm; 22 Highland bullocks reached 183p and £940 from Ormsary Farmers, Lochgilphead, and averaged 167p, with the same home topping the 18 Highland heifers (which averaged 138p) at 161p and £710; and 20 Herefords averaged 191p and sold to 212p and £1170 from FB Sangster, Badenkup, Buchlyvie.
Outwith the native consignments, a pen of Charolais cross bullocks from A and JC Craig, Bairoer, Drymen topped at 223p with this pen and another from Williamswood at £1000.
Heifers sold to 222p for Charolais crosses from Reston and Berwick Farming Co, Shawbraes House, Reston, and £1050 for a pen of Simmentals from A Dawson and Sons, Beannie, Braco.

TRADE didn’t disappoint at C and D Auction Marts’ recent sale of store cattle where the overall average for the catalogue entry of 229 cattle rose by £123.88 on the year.
The sale peaked at £1350 for an Aberdeen-Angus bullock from DJ and M Moffat, Rigg Smiddy, with heifers to £1080 twice for Limousins from TW and AM Moscrop and Son, Ryeclose.

THE majority of cattle on offer at Wallets Marts, on Monday, were well-fleshed, stronger stores, with the 257 bullocks selling to average 208.2p per kg at 470kg with 100 heifers at 200.2p at an average weight of 430kg.
Selling for the top price of 242.6p were Charolais cross bullock from J Nelson, Cogarth, with bullocks also hitting £1295 for a pen of Charolais from S and L Asberry, Hill of Balmagie.
Heifers reached 220.1p for Limousin crosses from JR Parker and Son, Mill of Plunton, and £1180 for Aberdeen-Angus crosses from T Robb, Trolane.
A show of 68 OTM cattle met a sound demand with the 59 cast cows selling to £1142.64 for a Simmental from Culnaughtrie. They averaged 125.7p or £782.29.
