TWO flocks led the way at the sale of in-lamb Suffolk females at Carlisle, last week, when Pamela Lupton’s Kexbeck flock and Lilburn Estates Farming Partnership’s Roseden flock secured the majority of the leading prices.
The star of the day and stand-out leader at 2000gns was a February-born ewe lamb from Pamela’s Ripon-based flock. Full of Rhaeader breeding being sired by Rhaeadr Reggae and out of a home-bred ewe by Rhaeadr Skyfall, a son of the record priced Ardlea Arbennig at 90,000gns, she caught the eye of Myfyr Evans and joins the Rhaeadr flock at Llanrhaeadr, Denbigh, Wales.
Ms Lupton’s three other ewe lambs by the Reggae tup that stood champion at Shrewsbury Show in 2015, all sold for 500gns apiece with the first, out of another daughter of the £8000 Skyfall, selling to J Brooke, Middleham, Leyburn.
The latter two – one out of a ewe by Rookery CK One and the other out of a Safaddan Smarty Pants daughter – both sold to Wolsingham Park Farm, Bishop Auckland.
Leading the way for the Roseden flock, from Wooler, which is managed by Mickey Walton, was the second prize gimmer which was snapped up by Fife breeder Stewart Craft, Little Balquhomrie, Leslie, for 800gns. This Rugley Stan daughter is out of a ewe by Essie Pendleton and was AI’d to Drimmie Upstart in August.
The Drummonds at Nether Heilar, Sorn, Mauchline, secured the next three Roseden gimmers, all by Drimmie Upstart and AI’d to Rookery Union Jack. Two of these sold for 600gns, and these were bred from Muirton Kick Off and Sitlow Night Flight-sired ewes, and at 550gns was a gimmer bred from a Deveronside Pall Mall daughter.
B Watson paid 500gns to take another Roseden gimmer home to Baal Hill, Wolsingham, with this one by Rookery Union Jack, out of a Baileys Jetset daughter, and AI’d to Drimmie Upstart.
