Dumfries
A SMALL entry of six prime cattle reached 208.5p per kg for a Charolais heifer from R Neill, Upper Tinwald, at C and D Auction Marts’ Dumfries centre last week.
Trade eased for all classes of OTM cattle which sold to 177p for an Aberdeen-Angus from Burnhead, and £1038 for a Simmental from Gillesbie.
The prime lamb trade was similar on the week for a plainer offering, with tops of 189p paid for North Country Cheviots from Barnbarroch, and £82.50 for heavy Texels from Lanarkland.

Forfar
PRIME cattle hit a top of 248p per kg twice at Lawrie and Symington’s sale, last week, when heifers from both South Ballo and Woodhead of Mailer sold at that price.
Heifers (23) also reached £1482 for one from Gask and sold to average 229p.
The eight bullocks averaged 234p and peaked at 242p twice from Gask and Nethermyres, with the one from Nethermyres also making £1495.
A Simmental from Cairncross led the 11 cast and OTM cattle at £1100 with a Limousin from Drimmie at 128p per kg.
A good show of 584 prime lambs met a slightly easier trade to average 157p, a 3.5p drop of the week.
They sold to 225.8p and £105 for a pair of Beltex lambs weighing 46.5kg from D and E Stewart, Mains of Dalrulzion.
 
Huntly
LAMBS sold slightly sharper on the week with a better show forward at United Auctions’ recent sale of 1002.
They peaked at 187p per kg for Beltex weighing 47kg from Edendiack, Gartly, and £97 for 73kg Texels from 91 Main Street, Newmill.

Stirling (Cal)
A GOOD show of prime cattle proved short of requirements at Caledonian Marts’ recent sale of 87, where a Limousin heifer from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn, sold for the top price of 235p per kg.
Heifers levelled at 214p while bullocks averaged 215p and sold to 230p four times – for three from TH Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown, and for another from AT Mitchell, Nether Glinns, Fintry.
Also forward were 78 cast cows and bulls where beef cows averaged 106p and sold to 147p for a Limousin from Balluskie, Barrhill, and £1070 for a Shorthorn from Kinlochewe, Almondbank.
Averaging 77p, dairy cows sold to 97p and £760 from Wester Balbeggie, Kirkaldy.
Sold on Tuesday, were 1561 prime lambs, ewes and tups, where lambs (689) averaged 166.4p.
They peaked at £94 for Beltex from Doune Farms, West Lundie, and 201p for Beltex from RA Campbell and Son, Meikle Seggie.
Cast ewes (759) averaged £38.74, with heavier ewes averaging £68 and selling to a top of £131 for a pen from JR McGregor, Dyke.

Longtown
MIDDLE weight lambs were easier to sell with best quality and export lambs a touch sharper on the week at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 3909 through Longtown last week.
They averaged 164.7p per kg (SQQ 167.8p) and sold to 229p for Beltex from Sorbie and £100 twice – for Beltex from Bridgestone, and again for Texels from Smyllum.
A large show of 6122 cast sheep saw Charollais rams from Beckfoot top at £154.
Ewes reached £151 for heavy Texels from Orchardton Mains with light ewes to £61 for Cheviots off Priesthaugh.

Thainstone
A BRITISH Blue heifer from Waterside, Forbes, topped the price per kg trade at 234p at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ most recent sale of prime stock.
She weighed 600kg and also realised £1404 and the 23 heifers cashed in to average 205.1p (+2.2p on the week).
Leading the gross trade at £1435 was an 820kg Limousin cross bullock from Braeside, Inverurie, with the seven bullocks, which averaged 184.2p (-5.5p), also selling to 232p for a 566kg Limousin cross from Waterside.
A large show of 264 cast cows saw 256 beef cows average 108.9p with eight dairy cows at 75.8p. They peaked at 167.7p for a Shorthorn from Holland, Stronsay, and £1185 for a Simmental from Dunn Farm, Watten.
Also forward were 1068 new season lambs which levelled at 159.5p (+1.9p) with the 554 SQQ lamb at 163.5p (+0.4p). Texels topped at 182.1p for a pen weighing 53kg from Hourston, Orphir, and £113.50 for a pen weighing 63kg from Nethermill, Kintore.

Stirling (UA)
SELLING through United Auctions, Stirling, last week, were 3488 prime lambs which cashed in to average 159.89p per kg.
Leading the entry at 213p and £98 were Texels from West Park.
Cast sheep (1574) sold to £108 for Texel ewes from Outerston.

Ayr
CRAIG Wilson sold 2385 prime lambs on Monday where all classes met a similar trade to the previous week although a large number of heavy lambs hindered the overall average.
Those on offer levelled at 161.1p (-0.5p on the week), having peaked at 200p and £92 for a pen of Beltex weighing 46kg from M Stevenson, Balcaimie, Dailly.
Cast sheep (979) averaged £45.65 and sold to £121 for a pen of Texel ewes from A McMillan, Burnbank, Dalrymple, with Blackface ewes to £49.50 from A and CB Millar, Baidlandhill, Dalry.
On Tuesday the firm sold 16 prime cattle where the 14 heifers averaged 219.3p and sold to 226p for two Limousin heifers from High Gameshill and a British Blue cross heifer from Langside.
Per head, one of the Limousins from High Gameshill realised £1378.60.

Dingwall
A CHAROLAIS cross and Limousin cross from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall, led the sale of prime heifers (21) to 216p per kg at Dingwall and Highland Marts, on Tuesday, with another Charolais cross from the same home selling for £1444.50.
New season lambs (364) averaged 157p and sold to 191.3p and £88 for Beltex crosses weighing 46kg from Leanach Farm, Culloden.

Lanark
ON Monday, new season lambs (1568) sold through Lawrie and Symington averaged 166.4p per kg and sold to 220.2p for a 42kg Beltex from A Padkin, Drumcork, and £94.50 for a 56kg Beltex from W Steele, Over Kypeside.  
The firm also had forward 29 prime cattle and young bulls, with a Limousin heifer from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, selling to a top of 247p.

Castle Douglas
A TREMENDOUS show of heavyweight lambs sold to a top of £90 for Texels from both Messrs Jardine, Upper Hardland, and West Kirkcarsewell Farming Co, Balmangan, Dundrennan.
Top price per kg, was 201.5p for a pen of Beltex lambs from Messrs Hiddleston, Newmains, Shawhead.

Newton Stewart
HEAVYWEIGHT Beltex from W Kerr, High Boreland, led the prime lambs  on offer a Craig Wilson, on Wednesday, to £88, with Beltex from A McKay, Broughton Mains, to 186.1p, with an average of 160.7p for the 1587 on offer.
