IN-LAMB Texel females from top-end flocks led the way at the multi-breed show and sale of pedigree sheep at Thainstone, on Monday, securing the top two prices and a new centre record price.
The sale, which is part of the Aberdeen Christmas Classic, saw a new high of 4200gns paid for the reserve Texel, a gimmer from Robbie Wilson’s Milnbank flock, from North Dorlaithers, Turriff.
A daughter of Milnbank Van Wilder, out of a home-bred ewe by Millar’s Outstanding, she sold in lamb to the £60,000 Strathbogie Yes Sir – a tup bought privately this year – to Turriff farmer Steven Smith of Sunnyhill Croft.                                                                                               Mr Wilson also sold two daughters of the 42,000gns Glenside Valhalla due to Strathbogie Yes Sir, at 2000gns and 1800gns.
First up was a maternal sister to the 12,000gns Milnbank Vantastic, which sold to Orkney with R and L Rendall, New Moan, Harray.
Second best at 1800gns and bred from a dam by Castlecairn Sas Commander, was a gimmer knocked down to WJ Jack and Sons, Woodend, Muir of Ord.
Second top price, at 3200gns, was the champion Texel from Jim Innes’ Strathbogie flock, from Dunscroft, Huntly. A daughter of Aman Vrynwy, which is by the 60,000gns Teiglum Tornado, she is out of a Deveronvale bred dam purchased for 8500gns, by Glenside Razzle Dazzle.
Buying back some of his own genetics, she sold to Graham Morrison, buying for his Deveronvale flock at Cornhill and again due to Yes Sir.
Another gimmer from the same home and by the same sire made 1800gns to D Leek, Rowanhill. A half brother to a 35,000gns tup lamb, she sold carrying twins to Yes Sir.
Matching the 2000gns sale was the best from Albert and George Howie’s Knock flock, at Peterhead. This gimmer which stood third place in the pre show sale is by Cowal Vogue, which has bred lambs to 24,000gns for the Howies and bred from a 6500gns Strathbogie gimmer by Bradleys Pure Gold.
Michael Cursiter, Henley, Orkney, was the last man in on this entry which sold due to Arkle YingYang.
Jim Innes was back in the money amongst the Suffolks, selling his reserve breed champion for the top price in the section of 2400gns.
A full sister to the 16,000gns Strathbogie lamb, this gimmer is by Muirton One Direction, and bred from a Deveronside ewe by Strathbeg Stan The Man. First in her class at Turriff, this year, she sold in lamb to Lakeview No Limits to Judith Lorimer, Cadgerford, Kingswells.
The champion Suffolk from father and son duo, George and Melvin Stuart, of Milltown of Birness, Ellon, realised 1400gns. This home-bred gimmer by Middlemuir Maserati and out of a dam by Meikleson Square Up sold in lamb to Cavangrove Catalyst to Caithness breeders, Charlie and Isobel Angus, of Oldfield, Thurso.
The leading Beltex, at 1100gns, was the champion, Colin and Alfie Mair’s Aviemore Adeen 6 from Muirfield, Everton of Auchry, Turriff. This Damien V/D Dire Musschen daughter, which is a full sister to a Lanark female champion, sold scanned for twins to Corstane Whistler, to Andrew Morton, Lochend, Denny.
