TWO flocks dominated the sale of Blue Texels females, at Carlisle, last week, where trade peaked at 980gns and 22 gimmers averaged £511.64.
Topping the trade was a gimmer by a Beili Blues sire and out of a Millside dam from Fraser Forsyth’s Corra flock, at Castle Douglas. She sold to Northern Ireland breeder, William Vance, Trillick, Co Tyrone, scanned to Hackney Yardman – the reserve champion from this year’s Carlisle Blue Texel ram sale.
Mr Forsyth also sold two at 550gns apiece. First up was another by Beili Blues but out of a different Millside ewe, which sold to IF Donaldson, Hillcroft, Lockerbie, in lamb to Hackney Yardsman.
Matching that price when knocked down to Cumbrian farmer, DT and G Young, Crummock Bank, Wigton, was a gimmer by the imported Turbo Blue Tommy and out of a Turbo Blue ewe. She was also served by Hackney Yardman.
Regular consigner, Jan Rodenburg, Cape Dewi, Ceredigion, was also in the money selling the next top five lots all served by flock’s AI sire Jonsland Wifi, with the first being her overall champion which made 700gns.
That was an imported gimmer out of Dutch mother, Bonhof, which was knocked down to a breeder from across the water, WJ Bradley, Knockloughrim, Co Londonderry.
Mr Bradley also went to 600gns for another gimmer by a home-bred sire which stood reserve overall. She changed hands due with twins.
Jan sold a further three for 550gns, with the first being a gimmer by Klaver and out of Van Middlelaar, to S Thomas, Hafren Terrace, Llanidloes, Powys.
Another was the fourth-prize gimmer, by the Dutch-bred Lageweg, selling to J Gargett, Bon Vista, Ruckcroft, Carlisle, while Northumberland farmer, TP Wigham, Coanwood, Haltwhistle, paid the same for a daughter of Vries.
