YOUNGSTERS from the Dumfries area were to the fore at C and D Auctions’ recent annual young handlers competition at Dumfries, which was combined with a summer show and sale of prime lambs.
Ten young handlers presented their lambs to judge, George Sommerville who selected five-year-old Alya Craig’s 40kg black lamb from Glenhowan Farm as overall champion, which sold for the top price of £107 to Mr Sommerville.
Jack Graham’s lamb from Birsca Farm secured the over 12-year-old young handler championship which later sold to R Johnstone and Sons, Annan.
The best pair of lambs in the shape of Beltex weighing 41kg from J Muir and Son, Cleughbrae, made £105 to Fairfield Meat Company, while 40kg Texels from Skipmyre sold for £100 to West Scottish Lamb.
