TRADE was decidedly sticky at the Scottish Zwartbles Branch’s third annual show and sale at Stirling, where the pre-sale champion went on to top the sale at 1000gns.
That was Sammy Stewart’s Janetstown Deveron, a shearling ram which stood champion at Keith Show as a lamb and went on to pick up a fourth at the Royal Highland Show last month for the flock from Keith. He was secured by a phone bid from Messrs Watson, who run the Beechbrook flock across in Northern Ireland.
Following on at 800gns was the reserve male champion, Bessiebell Eddy the Eagle, a ram lamb from Susan Smyth, Newtown Stewart, Co Tyrone.
Eddy picked up a red ticket at Ballymena Show earlier in the season and sold to J Gilchrist, West Meikle Pinkerton, Dunbar.

The Scottish Farmer:
Hitting 700gns for Ian and Adam Donald, also from Newtown Stewart, was Donbraid Elsa, which was knocked down to Faye Wilkie, buying for her Whitestone flock in Aberdeenshire. Elsa was first place ewe lamb at the pre-sale show and stood fourth in her class at Balmoral.
A gimmer from Stirling-based Messrs McLaren and Baird, Greystone Dusk, which stood second in the pre-sale show, sold to L Eunson, Dr Gracey Drive, Preston Pans, for 500gns.
Not far behind on 480gns was the third prize ram lamb, Wallacetown Epic from Mr and Mrs Rae, Rokele Drive, Collin. He heads to Rookery House, Micklon Hill, Richmond, with CJ and JM Simpson.
Ewes peaked at 450gns for the reserve female champion from Nicola and Rowan Henderson, again from Newtown Stewart. Their Smiddy Hill Camille was snapped up by J Hexton, Hazel Cottage, Armathwait.

averages:

Five shearling rams, £497.70; 11 ram lambs, £291.90; 22 gimmers, £108.15; 35 ewe lambs, £186.90.
