A BLUEFACED Leicester shearling ram from young Jamie Pirie’s Blarnavaid flock from Drymen, produced a new centre record at United Auctions multi-breed ram sale at Stirling, selling for the top price of £5500.
The sale, which attracted an entry of 870 rams and females was led by Mr Pirie’s tup, a son of Highberries Hotshot, bred from a ewe by the £11,000 F1 Firth.
A proven breeder, he was used on loan as a lamb at Knowhead, Kippen, and bred the fourth prize pen of 25 Scotch Mule ewe lambs at Caledonian Marts’ Stirling sale which went on to sell for £120.
Forking out the cash for this cracker, were Mule breeders, Messrs Shennan, Farden, Turnberry, Grivan and Andrew McQuistin, Barnshangan, New Luce.
Texels peaked at £1400 for an entry from D Strachan and Son, East Shawtonhill, purchased by Monzie Farms, Crieff, and a shearling from Robert Bryce, Chalmerston, topped the Suffolk section at £1300 selling to Norman Douglas, Catslackburn, Yarrow.
Beltex crosses also sold to £1300 for a shearling from Messrs More, Townhead, purchased by Cloquhart Farms.
The show and sale of pedigree Beltex saw young Alasdair Maclean, Tiree, produce both the champion and the reserve winners, and sell the lead priced lot at 1800gns. He sold in a two-way split to William and John Brown, Hilton of Culsh, New Deer, Turriff, and Terry Coghill, Muce, Birsay, Orkney. Mr Maclean sold six to average £971.25.
Iain Reid’s Osprey Beltex flock from Methven, produced the lead flock average at £1018.50 for five.
