TEXEL rams led the way at C and D Auction Marts’ Great Annual Ram Fair of 957 rams of all breeds and crosses, securing the top two prices at £1500 and £1300.
Sale leader was a shearling ram from Dumfriesshire breeder Hazel Martindale, Lands Farm, purchased by  G Mitchinson, High Greenhill. 
The £1300 shearling from G Cakebread, Commonside, sold to Messrs Davidson, Mill View, Otterburn. 
Commonside also scooped the overall Texel championship, judged by Neil Hamilton, Earlside, with a shearling ram that later made £800 to Messrs Lewis, Bryn-y-groes, Wales. 
Mr Hamilton, bought his choice of reserve, a shearling from John Tough, Easterseat, Carluke, at £580.

Prices peaked at £680 at the company’s show and sale of 134 Bluefaced Leicester rams at Longtown.
This was a shearling ram from WC Anderson and Son, Parkhill, Roberton, Hawick, who also sold others at £650 and £600 (x3) with his pen of 10 averaging £525.
