EWE lambs from Paul Tippets and Christine Williams’ Hackney flock led the way at the sale of Blue Texel females at Carlisle, which included the Sapphire sale with consignments from Hackney, Whatmore and Jonsland.
The leading entries from the flock from Lodge Hill Farm, Park Lane, Shifnal, when brought out by shepherd Aled Groucott, were two ET-bred lambs by Joe’s Alvin, the 18,000gns breed record holder which stood breed champion at the Royal Highland Show earlier this year and has bred sons to 1600gns.
Dearest at 2600gns when knocked down to MJ Davies, Caerafon, Caersws, Powys, was a lamb bred from Hackney Yikes, a Whatmore Siren daughter.
Making 2400gns was another by Joe’s Alvin, this time out of a full ET sister to Yikes in the shape of Hackney Yum Yum, which sold to Mr and Mrs Weatherburn, Yeat Farm, Wotton Underwood.
Next best at 2000gns was Whatmore Attitude, a Hackney X-Factor-sired gimmer from Steve and Sara Gribbons, Tregoyd, Brecon. Selling to DS and D Brute, Ty Gwyndwnwal, Llanfihangel, Brecon, she is out of a Whatmore Wasp daughter and ran with Whatmore Yorkie prior to sale.
Attitude’s grand-dam, the multi-champion Whatmore Tonic, was the dam of the next highest lot at 1700gns which sold to D Brisbane, Little Tongue, Castle Kennedy. That was Whatmore Angel, which is this time by Whatmore Wasp and also ran with Whatmore Yorkie.
Heading up the main sale was the champion, an imported gimmer from Stasa Moyse, Woolhillock, Skene. Full of Dutch breeding, being by Eijnen and out of a Nicolay daughter, she was served by Hackney Your Joking and sold to Laura Melland, Bottom Howe, Leek.
Dan and Janine Jones’ Jonsland flock from Newtown, Powys, peaked at 950gns when a gimmer by Whatmore Wasp sold to Robert Hamilton, Mid Shawtonhill, Chapelton. She is out of the Whatmore Siren-sired Jonsland Xtreme, and also ran with Whatmore Yorkie.
