BLUEFACED Leicester females from Allan and Ben Wight's Midlock flock from Crawford, have secured many of the top prices at the in-lamb sales already this year and United Auctions' inaugural event at Stirling was no exception at 2800gns.

One of the best bred females in the catalogue, this in-lamb gimmer is by the home-bred Midlock Mustang, a ram that has already bred several five-figure priced tups. The dam is a daughter of the F1 Low Tipalt whose dam bred the £12,000 Midlock Dynamite. She sold to Jack and Sheila Kay, Hartside, Lammermuir, Oxton, who also went to 1100gns for a gimmer from Mrs Obie Sharp, Newbigging Walls, Lauder. This was a daughter of the H002 Carry House sire, bred from a ewe by a C002 Midlock. She changed hands carrying a single lamb to the J1 Hot Bank.

Newbigging Walls also produced the champion, another gimmer bred the exact same way which made 1200gns to S Fallows, Brunton Farm, New Cumnock. She sold scanned for twins to the K27 Riddings ram.

Top priced ewe hogg at 1400gns and reserve champion was an entry from Derek Hall's Firth flock from Lilyburn, Penicuik. She is by a J002 Blairnavaid, out of a daughter of a B004 Tanhouse, and was knocked down to Alex Steedman, Kippen.

Averages: 12 gimmers, £781.38; four ewe hoggs , £682.50.
