Centre records for a Bluefaced Leicester were smashed at North West Auctions J36 Rural Auction Mart, last weekend, when a gimmer from Allan and Ben Wight's Midlock flock from Crawford, sold for 2600gns.

The multi-breed sale of individual females, attracted twice the number of Blue females compared to the previous year and was topped by a gimmer by Midlock Mustang, carrying triplet lambs by the K1 Shafthill. She was purchased by CT and JE Willoughby of the Penhill flock.

Ewe hoggs peaked at 1300gns for an entry from Martyn Archer, Carry House, Hexham, which sold in a two-way split to Kevin Barker and Luke Ayrton, both from Lancaster. She is sire by the G1 Highberries Highlander.

The champion, a ewe hogg by the J1 Barf House, from Messrs Lord, West Dowgill, made 1000gns selling to Alison Bastian, Dumfries, while the reserve, the second prize hogg, from Jimmy and Wendy Bell's Cottage flock from Highfields, Carnwath, realised 1200gns to Hugh Henry, buying for his Starbog flock from Ballymena. She is sired by the J2 Lunesdale and out of a ewe by the C1 Shafthill.

Blue ewes peaked at 1000gns for local breeder, RI Dixon, Low Newton. His three-crop entry by a F003 Middleton Hall, sold carrying triplets to Kendal-based breeder, Matthew Atkinson.

The event also incorporated the annual Rough Diamonds sale of Rough Fells, which saw the 18 forward sell to 800gns for the reserve champion at the pre-sale show, a gimmer from TLB and J Knowles, High Borrowbridge, Selside. A daughter of the 10,000gns record priced ram, High Cark Yankie RF2696 and carrying twins to a Catholes ram, she was knocked down to A and M Skidmore, Flakebridge.

The champion, a one-crop ewe from J Hunter, Galloper Park, Tebay, made 700gns. She is by the RF2604 Maryfell Walter, and sold carrying a single lamb by the RF2563 Lockbank W3, to S and W Dickinson, Tebay.
