A SHOW and sale of Blackface hoggs at Caledonian Marts' Stirling centre, on Tuesday, saw the champion pen awarded to Colin Little from East Bracklinn, Callander.
Picked out by judge, Bill MacKinnon of Scotbeef, Mr Little's pen crossed the scales at 40.5kg apeice and sold for £85 or 210p per kg.
Top price however at £94 or 202p was the first prize heavyweights and reserve pen from R and R Braes, Burnshot, which tipped the scales at 46.5kg per life.
Overall, a good show of 1950 prime hoggs met the dearest trade this season, averaging 202.2p (+5p on the week and 35.2p on the year) having sold to £115 for a 62kg Texel from Ian Campbell, Meikle Seggie, and 247p for a pair of Beltex weighing 40.5kg from AM Duncan, Easter Dallatur.
Also on offer were 798 cast ewes and tups which saw 248 heavy ewes average £79.97 and reach £130 for a Texel from PJ and C Wood, Knockhill, Strathkinnes, with 303 export ewes at £39.38.
