Scots made their mark at CCM Skipton Auction Mart’s winter females sale, incorporating seasonal shows and sales for in-lamb Texel, Beltex and Blue Texels.
Blue Texels took the top price of 1600gns for Ayrshire breeders David and Jennifer Alexander, Millside flock, Galston. The pre-sale champion was a gimmer sired by a home-bred tup, which goes back to Beili Blues Dylan and is out of the Hackney daughter, Londesborough Emerald. Adding to her future potential she sold carrying twins to Towerview Grand Prix, and was knocked down to the Lythe family, Stackstead, Bacup.
The same buyers also went to 1000gns for the Alexanders’ reserve champion gimmer, which sold carrying triplets to Dragon Fab. By the same sire this one if out of Wind-Mill Elderflower.
A consignment of five pedigree Badger Face Texel females from Henry Jewitt, Sunnybank flock, Romaldkirk, Barnard Castle, sold to a top of 600gns.
Texels from Gordon and David Gray, Ettrick flock, Lindean, Selkirk, secured the Texel championship for the second year in succession, and also the top price of 1200gns on two occasions.
First was the title winner, a gimmer sired by the 6000gns Holtridge El Primo out of an Ettrick Cockney Rebel dam. She sold carrying twins to the 30,000gns Clarks Grey Goose. The final bidder was James Robertshaw, Thornton, Bradford.
Also making 1200gns for the same home was the fourth prized gimmer which found a new home with J and A Hartley, Grindleton, Ribble Valley. A daughter of New View Electrifying, she is out of an Oberstown Usain Bolt dam and again was carrying twins to Grey Goose.
Among the Beltex a top price of 1200gns was paid for the reserve champion, a gimmer from Matthew Burleigh, Shanra, Enniskillen, Northern Ireland.
She came in the form of Matt’s Hendrick, by the 14,000gns Murrays Expert, and sold in-lamb to a Welsh tup. She now joins Henry Bailey, who farms in Long Lee, Keighley.
