LOVE it or loathe it, social media can be used to huge advantage and certainly was when Aberdeenshire sheep farmer, Stuart Wood, Woolhillock, sold a handful of in-lamb ewes while also contributing to the work of Macmillan Cancer Support in the North-east.

Mr Wood, who owns the Woodies Beltex and Blue Texel flocks, offered tickets for sale (numbers 1-50 at £25 each) for four Suffolk ewes in lamb to Woodies Beltex sires and scanned for twins, with 40% of the proceeds going to Macmillan Support.

Such was the demand and rush for tickets, that a second raffle for four in-lamb Mule gimmers – again scanned for twins to Woodies Beltex sires – had to be arranged.

Chairperson for the Huntly Area of Macmillan CS committee, Margo Stewart, drew the lucky numbers which saw Deirdre Wylie, Balbrydie, Kirriemuir, win the pen of four Suffolk ewes.

Raymond Smith, Townhoad Road, Inverurie and sons Ross (7) and Scott (6), won the four Mule gimmers.

Mrs Stewart also accepted a cheque for £1050 from Stuart and Murray Wood on behalf of the charity.
