Castle Douglas butcher, Jimmy Craig of Ballards butchers, always buys the best of Blackface lambs for their unique, natural flavour for the Christmas and New Year market and this year bought several of the champion winners at various shows and sales. These included the breed and native winners at LiveScot which went on to stand reserve overall champion, from Hugh Hamilton, Glenmanna, Thornhill, which produced 21kg and 20.5kg carcases.
Mr Craig is also enjoying a flying trade for lamb from the Blackface champion winners from Borderway Agri-Expo at Carlisle, also from Glenmanna, and the champion Blackie lambs at Castle Douglas Christmas show and sale from the Locharts of Culdoach.
