STIRLING YF CALVES HIT TOP OF £1600
A top quality turnout of calves were forward for the Clyde and Central district Young Farmers' Calf Rally, held at Caledonian Marts, Stirling, this week.
Trade peaked at £1600, or 352p per kg, for a 455kg Limousin bullock from SSS YFC member Graeme Stirling, Burnbank Farm, Throsk, which had been judged by Ewan McPherson, The Mill, Benderloch, Oban, as first in its class. Bought at an Oban sale in December, where he stood reserve champion, this 11-month-old steer, was bred by Douglas McDonald, Ferlochan. Sired by a Limousin stock bull and out of a three-quarter Limousin mother, he sold to freelance stockman Dougie McBeath, The Winchester, Manor Neuk, Stirling, who named it Budgie and was buying on behalf of a client.
