NEW ENTRANTS NEED A 'LOTTERY' WIN

There is no realistic possibility of any new entrant being able to buy land to farm - unless they have made their fortune elsewhere, or won the lottery.

That's the view of leading agricultural lawyer, Colin Clark, a partner at Pagan Osborne, who stressed that proposals expected shortly from the Tenant Farming Forum will need to go further than subsidised loans if there is to be a meaningful incentive to encourage new entrants into the industry.
