Well-known for its beautiful gold-coloured coat, the Palomino is undoubtedly one of the most stunning and recognisable in the horse world – but now its breed society is widening its scope to other colours.

In a big change of direction, the British Palomino Society will open its shows to all shades of the popular pony. In the past, it had a strict colour criterion for showing Palominos, but now the in-hand affiliated classes will be judged on conformation, movement and correctness to type, and awards for correct colour will be judged separately.

Members of the society now have access to register their Palominos or cream dilutes and apply for a passport if one is required. For those who already have a passport, the society can over stamp existing passports.

The BPS has three championship shows run by it, including the National Championships on July 7-8, 2018, which includes in-hand and ridden classes, dressage, a dedicated novice ring and an open ‘all colours’ show ring.

Lee Mingay, of The British Palomino Society, said: “The society has a real passion for owning and exhibiting these horses and ponies. Our shows are a great way to gather members together and compete in a supportive environment. It is a great spectacle to see so many of these golden horses and ponies at one event.”
