A TOTAL of six HOYS qualifying tickets were marked down to Scottish riders after a very successful trek to Arena UK, Lincolnshire for the Summer Pony Premier.

Shaunie Greig is in unstoppable form just now and heads off to Austria as part of the junior Nations Cup squad but not before she claimed three of the tickets available for Birmingham in October.

Her 148cms Moonlight Flight and Casino Royale carried on the form that saw them catch the selectors eye at Chepstow with these two the only ponies from 82 starters to return first round clears standing first and second in the Pony SJ Of The Year qualifier ensuring early qualification for the final.

Fiona McDonald’s Teagan Arla Rose only joined Shaunie at the beginning of the year going on to qualify for the Winter JC final at their first show together.

Since then they had a go at the second rounds at Weston Lawns but weren’t in the money. Here at Arena UK they could do no wrong posting a fast treble clear to take the win.

This Newcomers second round saw a Scottish one-two-three with Megan Morris travelling from the Borders with her own home-produced RS Capello really coming into his own taking on the bigger tracks for fun.

Their treble clear here was enough to see them qualify in second place.

Slotting into third was the consistent partnership of Chloe Templeton on her Scottish-bred Still Got Me, a finalist for last year’s HOYS Foxhunter and Newcomers. Their campaign to qualify this year sees them through to the Newcomers final with a third place and a treble clear but they also finished third in the Foxhunter with another treble clear putting them through for another chance at the Foxhunter Masters at the National Championships at the end of the summer.

Coylton’s Fergal Holohan is another to be having a great start to the year having already qualified through to the 128cms Winter finals at Hickstead but this will now be a good warm up for his HOYS appearance which he earned thanks to his super little grey Harri Potter which just rubbed one pole out in the third round to be pipped from the top spot by the only treble clear, Tabitha Kyle on Living The Dream.

Jackson Stewart was seen steering Miss Daisy D into second in a Cats and Pipes UK qualifier.

Out in Belgium, Graham Babes continues to dominate. Now in Sentower Park, he has topped his results so far with a win in the six-year-old Grand Prix on the useful Ma Fleur JS.

Boucheron added money to the pot finishing a very respectable second in the 2* Grand Prix in very good company whilst Eccosse has been clear in 1.40/1.45 classes. Patricia Fraser’s Cluedo has had a third and fourth in 130/1.35m with Carlingford On The Rocks and Farao M making up the rest of the team.

Based in Leven in Fife, Sandra Low Mitchell has been short listed for the European Veteran Championships.

One of Sandra’s pupils, Emma Crawford was in red hot form at Ayr Show where she headed the final National 1.30m Open beating the boys.

Just four found their way round Shaun Sands track from the original 19 came forward to go against the clock with James Smith’s first of two rides, Jim Wilmer’s Quattro getting high enough over what had been the last fence but dropping a bit short onto the back bar then rubbing another to get thing started.

Emma was next in on Ferragamo L which saw her time almost five seconds slower with fences intact.

Alex Barr was next in on Bettilina but was unlucky to take off the last fence.

James was last in on grandfather Charlie’s Just Max and slotted into third, fourth and fifth places. He also took the leading local rider award.

This was Emma’s second win of the day opening by heading a 21 starter RHS Novice qualifier with her ride, the 12-year-old Bonheur mare Frauke De Bonheur.

Only two came home double clear in this class with Emma’s time two seconds quicker than Nigel Springer on seven-year-old Lumbbrook Lad.

Local rider Lucy Stewart riding Con 3, blasted round the first class of the day the 1.15m Open before swapping onto Cancun to record yet another blistering time to stop the clock six seconds faster than her nearest rival Gemma Kennedy.

Gemma was deputising for Kelly by riding Cleopatra and came second with a double clear at their first show together and Nicola McArthur steered the big Amaretto into third place.

Douglas Duffin riding Enola Van Schutterhof, a horse he had ridden previously but had been with Savannah Price, managed to jump the only clear round of 17 starters in the Highland show B+C qualifier to win the class and claim the only qualifying ticket.
