KATIE Scott posted a poignant win at Perth on May 17, when she saddled Rory’s Valentine to a 50-1 victory to give her mother, Sylvia, a first success under Rules.

The mare – longest priced winner of the day – landed the opening division of the 2½-half mile handicap.

Selkirk jockey, Rachael McDonald, lost her 7lb claim after riding Blue Kascade to a 28-1 win in the three-mile chase for Greenlaw trainer, Sandy Thomson. “It was an emotional win today,” said Sandy, who only recently lost his father, David, a former chairman of Kelso racecourse.

“Rachael gave him a great ride and has now ridden out her 7lbs claim. I’m delighted to get a winner for Ken McGarrity too.”

Lucinda Russell enjoyed her second success in two days when Boy’s On tour was the 3-1 winner of the 2½-mile handicap.

Carrutherstown-based trainer, Iain Jardine, won the conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle race with Traditional Dancer, for Scottish owner, Ian Dalgleish.

Amie and Simon Waugh teamed up to win division two of the 2½-half mile handicap hurdle race with My Escapade, while James and Susan Corbett won the two-mile handicap hurdle with Morning with Ivan.

On the Flat at York, Hawick jockey Jason Hart rode El Astronaute to head the five-furlong handicap. “He’s a horse with a proper attitude, and always wears his heart on his sleeve,” said the winning jockey.

Danny Tudhope continued on-form, when the Irvine jockey rode Main Desire to a 12-1 win in the five-furlong Listed race.

There were two Scottish winners at Perth the previous afternoon, on May 16. Milnathort’s Lucinda Russell saddled Alizee De Janeiro to a 5-1 win in the two-mile novice. Then, Havana Jack was the 4-1 winner of the three-mile handicap for Irvine handler, Leonard Kerr.

Father and son, George and Jonathon Bewley, teamed up to land the three-mile novice handicap hurdle race with 16-1 chance Our Morris.

Langholm jockey Dale Irving completed a double at Sedgefield on May 15. He won the two-mile handicap hurdle on 18-1 chance Russian Rascal, before riding Quick Brew to a 14-1 win in the 2½-half mile handicap.

On the Flat, Danny Tudhope also enjoyed dual success. He took the opening five-furlong novice stakes at Beverley on Deep Intrique and then added the 1m 2f handicap on Neverbeen to Paris.

At Aintree, on May 18, Pauline Robson saddled Martiloo to win the 2½-mile handicap chase for East Lothian owners, Ray and Anita Anderson Green.

Another Langholm jockey in dual winning form was Jamie Gormley who completed a double at Hamilton the same evening. He rode Zabeel to a 5-1 victory, before partnering Logi to head the six-furlong handicap.

David Allan won the one-mile handicap on Vive La Difference, and was back in the winner’s enclosure at Redcar on May 21, riding Eeh Bah Gum to a 3-1 win in the five-furlong handicap.

At York, Jason Hart rode Signora Cabella to a 20-1 win the five-furlong fillies stakes, and was also successful with Voyager Blue in the maiden at Redcar.

Iain Jardine had a winner at Market Rasen on May 20, when the favourite L’Inganno Felice won by 26 lengths in the two-mile novice carrying the colours of Alec Dawson and his daughter, Katy Campbell.
