CONSIDERING THE freezing weather that appeared on Friday evening into Saturday, there was a great turnout at the Craig Wilson mart, Ayr, for the Kilpatrick Foal Show.
Starting off 2016’s show season, John McMillan took the overall show championship home to Mill Farm, Rothesay, with Mill Duchess Kate, a May-born filly by Dillars Top Gun, out of Mill Lady Di.
Coming in reserve was Collessie Maxine, a May-born filly which is owned by Ronnie Black, Newton of Collessie, Cupar, Fife. She is by Arradoul Balvenie and is out of Collessie Lucy.
This championship was a close call, because the judges resorted to inviting the umpire into the ring to assist them with their decision.
This was in the final class, from which the overall champion and reserve were eventually chosen from, and was the foal born after May 1.
The umpire, Peter Tennant junior, came into the ring to assist the judges on the top two placings, as it seemed the judges, Robert Bedford and William Craig, were of opposing opinions on which it should be.
After a lengthy wait, the decision was made to place John McMillan’s foal first, ultimately deciding the overall foal champion for the day.
In the senior championship, it was Charlotte Young, from Hall Farm, Ayr, who took the winning prize, with an un-named colt by Glebeview Sir Charles.
Coming in as reserve senior was Pacemuir Angus by Dillars Scottie Boy, which is owned by A and E Campbell, of Netherwood Cottage, Kilmacolm.
