Lifting the overall supreme title on the second day of the Scottish Horse Show, held at a sweltering Ingliston EC, was the mini supreme champion, the Scottish-bred Charn Secret Legend, ridden by Ruby Ward.

Winner of the HOYS lead rein of hunter type qualifier Kelly Ward's eight-year-old gelding was bred in East Lothian by Pam de Pree, and has previously been supreme at HOYS.

Joyce Coltart judged the supreme and had five champions forward, including both mountain and moorland champions, the show hunter pony and intermediate winner.

"It was proper little hunter pony, with beautiful manners and presence," said Joyce afterwards.

Winning the HOYS Cuddy qualifier was Russell Skelton with the in-hand hunter champion Kings Speech.

Runner up at HOYS last year, he is now owned by Freda Stuart from Inverness. Only lightly shown this year, he was reserve supreme at the Grand Slam and in-hand hunter champion at the Highland Show.

"I loved the athletic way it moved, it was so balanced with good bone," said judge Jackie Webb.

"He's such a big horse that we'll leave him to mature and he'll get broken after HOYS," said Russell.

Reserve champion was Fiona Thomson and her home-bred brood-mare Southhills I Propose.

The first day's supreme – run at the end of a 12-hour show day where only three champions waited– went to the hunter champion Lambwath Dalesman, ridden by Robert Walker.

"It was a lovely well balanced horse and a beautiful mover. It gave a relaxed show and made it look so easy," said judge Jackie Webb.

Hunter reserve was the second placed lightweight, Magnus Nicholson with Madam Cavaliere.

Robert also collected a second championship in the coloured section with Spiritus. The winner of the non native horse class was eventing at BE100 level until May.

Take That was the coloured reserve champion, after winning the traditional/native coloured pony class, ridden by Amber Tyldesley.

The six-year-old piebald stallion has recently been graded with CHAPS.

Cob champion was Karen and Hayley Sankey's The Life of Riley, winner of the lightweight class ridden by Andrew Collins.

"It champion carried me beautifully and was forward and light in the hand," said judge Nicky Turner.

Robert Walker was reserve with the lightweight winner Chesterton.

Emma Boardman rode Whalton Pinball Wizard to head the hack championship, and reserve was the second placed small, Vicky Smart with the former racehorse Chivola.

"The champion went beautifully and it judged its self to be champion," said judge Emma Coates.

The show pony champion Scallyway II, a five-year-old gelding by Kilvington Scoundrel, ridden by Harriet Lister. It was first at HOYS in the Cuddy final as a two-year-old.

"It was an outstanding champion, with the most fantastic way of going with incredible elevation," said judge Jamie Mead.

The mini champion was Woodview Ianthe, ridden by Summer Waldron. The seven-year-old gelding collected the HOYS qualifier after standing second twice already this season.

In the show hunter pony championships two second placed ponies were moved up to stand champion and reserve. The champion was the 153cm runner up Carnsdale Sir Lancelot, ridden by Jessica Hunt.

"In the championship the second placed pony went beautifully and was the only one that galloped," said judge Emma Coates.

The mountain and moorland classes were well supported, and champion was the Dales mare Nipna Damask Rose, ridden by Anna Pennell, collecting their first HOYS ticket.

The reserve was the charasmatic Shetland, Birchmoor Admiral, ridden by Alice Tomlinson. This is the sixth year they have qualified for HOYS.

In the mini mountain and moorland section, the champion was the first ridden winner Kelda Stewart's Shamrocklake Shirley Temple, ridden by daughter Holly.

This is Holly's last year in first ridden classes, they were sixth at HOYS and most recently were mini champions at the Great Yorkshire Show.

The working hunter pony champion was the intermediate winner, Amy Wybergh's Wynona, while reserve went to Irish visitor Ciara Mullen's Black Bobby Sparrow.

In the horse qualifier, six horses returned clears and Michael Cooper headed the class with UFO, a 12-year-old by Lux Z, purchased from Douglas Duffin.

Intermediate champion was the small show riding type winner, Believe, a five-year-old by Sheepcote Worthizer, that was eighth at HOYS in 2012. Reserve was Emma Greenwood with Secret Times, a five-year-old that was broken in January.
