Hunter pony takes top spot

Judge Joyce Coltart had the five Scottish section champions forward before selecting Linda Scott's hunter pony to be supreme.

The seven-year-old bay gelding is by Mybella Senator and out of Friars Blodwyn Ebrill, and this season was champion at BSPS Spring, first at Dalkeith and runner up at both the Royal Highland Show and Doune and Dunblane.

The show, held at Rowallan, saw the flat classes take place outside and working hunter classes in both indoor arenas. The show hosted the conclusion of the Scottish championships for Scottish BSPS members, they were judged by Robert Aitken in the flat classes and Graham Barclay for the working hunter pony sections.

Champion of the Scottish show ponies was Rhos Emelia, owned by Carol Mason and ridden by Olivia Cousens.

The 11-year-old mare is by Derwent Rainbow Bandidt and out of Rhos Eloise. Olivia has taken over the ride after the Highland Show and was first at Doune and Dunblane.

Charlie Cousens was reserve with the lead rein pony Cosford Charmed, ridden by Hilary Cowie. The four-year-old mare was purchased unbroken from the Cosford Stud, and was mini champion at the Highland Show.

Gemma Mason was show hunter pony reserve with Highmead Night Surprise. They were first at the Highland Show and qualified for the RIHS at Ayr.

Champion of the Scottish Heritage section for mountain and moorland ponies was Abbeywells Queen Adelaide, a 12-year-old Welsh section A mare, ridden by Erin McGregor in her first season of first ridden classes. They've been champion at Kilmaurs and Area 1B and reserve at Ayr, and has also qualified for the RIHS in home produced and open lead rein classes.

Reserve was Christie Humphries with the Connemara, Bridgehouse Boy, an eight-year-old by Seafield Pookhaun.

Scottish champion of the heritage working hunter ponies was Bronnen Pears with the Welsh section A Brynammen Dewi Santess, a dapple grey mare by Dyfed Playwright. They were reserve at the BSPS Finale Show.

Olivia Grant from Inverness was reserve with Hope Brenin. They are a relatively new partnership of six weeks, winning at Doune and Dunblane.

Lifting the Scottish working hunter title was Robyn Bendall from Castle Douglas with Now Or Never, a 10-year-old gelding that was champion at Kilmaurs and takes part in Stewartry Pony Club activities.

Hayden Hodgson and Cadlan Valley Picasso filled reserve. They have qualified for the RIHS in nursery stakes and 133cm classes.
