JAMES Stuart watched with pride as his four grandchildren scooped a succession of championships at their local Dumfries Show.

Annan-based Hannah Graham celebrated her third tricolour on the trot with a dual success aboard Caperann Swift.

The 16-year-old of Hillend Farm, who only started jumping a year ago, won the mountain and moorland working hunter championship, and also added the 15hh plaited BSPS working hunter pony honours.

Hannah has already formed a solid partnership with the Connemara gelding, who was only purchased in February. A week earlier they landed the WHP championship at the Border Union Show, and the next day followed suit at Penrith. Earlier this term, they were also successful at Northumberland County and Rowallan.

Hannah's younger sister Poppy rode Maypole Stargate, owned by her grandfather, to win the lead rein show pony class and then stand mini-champion.

This is the gelding's final year in lead rein classes, with Poppy's cousin Bella Waugh set to take the ride in first ridden classes next year.

Bella also enjoyed a successful show, finishing runner-up in the lead rein class on Cherrytop Imperial Starlight, who was mini reserve. The pair stood champion at Cumberland County and at Penrith.

Bella's elder sister, Chloe, took the ridden pony championship riding Small-land Accolade. Victorious at the Royal Highland, they also qualified for the Royal International after winning at Ayr County, and recently stood champion at Penrith.

Rachel Robson continued a winning run on a first-time visit to the show. Her supreme hunter title with Willow Wood came hot on the heels of the ridden tricolour at Borrowby four days earlier.

Rachel, who works on her parents' farm at Heddon Laws near Newcastle, rode the grey to head a strong lightweight class, before adding the ridden honours.

The eight-year-old mare was purchased as an unbroken four-year-old from breeder Billy Moran, and has already collected her 2014 Royal International ticket earlier this season at Cumberland County.

The family added further silverware to their collection when Ballyglass Misty Grey was judged best small hunter.

"We bought her in Ireland, unseen, as a four-year-old," explained Rachel, who has scored five times from six outings this term with the six-year-old grey.

Another grey took the ridden reserve - Denise Richardson riding her home-bred Maybe to win the middleweight class. The six-year-old, by resident stallion Maximillian Maali, stood champion at Penrith a week earlier on her seasonal debut.

The Richardson family had earlier landed the in-hand hunter honours with another home-bred youngster, I'm Woody Too.

The two-year-old gelding, by Hollywood, is a full brother to Denise's former Royal Highland Show supreme, and was also champion at Penrith.

Shown by Denise's brother, Paul, I'm Woody Two later stood reserve supreme.

Greys made a clean sweep in the ridden hunter classes - Samantha Cloy's winning heavyweight Noble Credit Crunch having landed the previous day's working hunter title.

Lorna Jamieson dominated the miniature Shetland section, heading five of the six classes. Her winning mare Lexus Daphne, champion at the National Stallion Show in March, took the tricolour ahead of the brood mare, Strathlene Lucky-Me who, with foal at foot, has won all three of her outings to date.

Judge Peter Robinson selected Eileen Carlysle's Dryfesdale Dekatrina as his standard champiom, with Elma Ball's Threave Jorrocks reserve.

Mandy Fawcett's seven-year-old gelding Tower Highland Piper, who competes in dressage and WHP classes, was best of the Highland classes, with the second-placed Dunedin Rhiona finishing reserve on just her second outing for Chris Grant.

Lorna McGowan repeated her 2012 success with Craiglea Piersporter to take the Arab championship. The five-year-old, a winner at Border Union, was contesting just his second show this term.

Another five-year-old - Jackson Express - was ridden by Fern Carey to take reserve for the second year running.

Pamela Brown rode Barhill Danny to win the mountain and moorland ridden championship, where mini honours went to Natalie Burford and Brynodyn Sebastian.

Brian Gibson lifted the coloured horse title for the second year in succession with Solway Sports Equine's stallion The Mane Man, while best of the palominos was Emily Archibald's ridden victor Longhouse Farm Accolade.

Another local exhibitor in winning form was Blythe Moore from Sanquar who rode Noble Sparkle to win the 133cm WHP class, before also adding the SHP championship.

David Robertson's Romanno Royal Sallite was best of the riding pony breeding entry, with Charlie Anderson's two-year-old home-bred mare Rushfield Swagger Jagger in reserve.

Eastlands Stud's mare Eastlands Flash Favour made a victorious seasonal debut to take the Connemara tricolour, while Jedburgh's Lynn Gregg was reserve with her five-year-old Kalewater Kings Seat, ridden by Tiffany Mactaggart.

Susan Robson's Royal Highland Show champion Nethermoss Dawn Poppy took the Welsh/mountain and moorland honours, with Maxwelltown Myriad, owned and bred by show director Brian Hyslop, in reserve.
