LOCAL rider Kerri Wright won a strong restricted novice Pet Plan Area Final at Goval with her own Ultimate. Kerry and the five-year-old by Udo Van Padhuis scored the highest mark of the weekend with 72.58%.

Kerry, who works in the sales office of Aberdeen-based company Rollstud Ltd, bought Ultimate unbroken in May last year from her breeder Suzy Mainprice of Morgan Equine Stud in Wales.

Pippa Ross and My Best Buddy came out on top of the prelim class.

The novice open final was also a high scoring class with Claire Smith topping the scoreboard with 71.45% on Elstar Van De Smishoeve. Claire and the eight-year- old Toulon-sired gelding having been competing successfully this season at BE90 level with wins at Aswanley and Wee Burgie.

Sam Turpitt and her six-year-old Lingh daughter Busilus won the elementary restricted final. Sam, bought Busilus in October 2009 from a stud dispersal at Thainstone. When she arrived she had no passport and no registered breeding, so Sam set about having her DNA tested and discovered she was well bred. The pair are having an excellent season and have just returned from the Summer Nationals.

The open section was won by Katie James and Pauldary's Zalra Blue.

Borders-based Katherine Tullie and her consistent Arctic Jazz won the medium final. This combination have been selected for the Scottish BYRDS squad at Bishop Burton at the end of October.

Katherine said: "This is the first time we have been to Goval, so I was really impressed by his attitude in new surroundings. These past few competitions he seems to have grown up."

Stonehaven-based Sharon Lindop and her seven-year-old Sandhaven won the advanced medium final. Sharon has been competing him sparingly for qualification and education purposes in order to give him time to strengthen and gain better balance in and out of movements.
