Mixed weather conditions but perfect going met competitors at Floors Castle Horse Trials, where Fife-based Wills Oakden had a successful outing winning the intermediate section with Alfi Brown and also taking third spot with Prime Time II.

Alfi Brown is owned by Wills' aunt, Francis Hay Smith and has had an excellent season so far.

Wills said: "He is paying his way, that's for sure. He is very cheeky and he bucked me off before his dressage today. I couldn't ask for medium trot in his dressage as he kept trying to buck! He has always been sharp, but incredibly talented. I had to convince Fran to buy him for me as a five-year-old as he was so naughty, so I am glad he has repaid me for my faith in him."

Peter Laidlaw and Sergeant Kiki took second spot, while Wills and Annie Finch's Prime Time were third.

Caroline Powell took the top two places in the TCN** class with Halltown Harley and Up Up and Away respectively. Up Up and Away is owned by Cameron Crawford, who is a long term supporter of Caroline.

Will Murray rode the Laing family's Just Jackson to win the intermediate novice class. This is only the third event for this combination who added only 0.4 time faults to their 29.6 dressage mark.

Will commented: "I am thrilled with him. He has been mixing some workers with eventing. He won the Cheshire premier novice workers, then went double clear at Richmond. He is a lovely horse and I feel very lucky to be riding him. The ground was fantastic, the novice course only had one real change which was that the step out of the water before the skinny had been removed which made it a bit softer."

Emily Galbraith was runner up with Ginja Ninja II. Emily had previously won the novice at Burgie with him.

The CIC* class was won by Emily Parker and Harelaw Wizard who added nothing to their dressage to win ahead of Caroline Powell and Stellor Seaurchin. Emily is based at Ian Stark's yard in Ashkirk. Emily commented: "His owner Charles Robson hunts him with the Buccleuch. He is a six-year-old and this was his first CIC* after only two novice runs with Charlie. He was fabulous and didn't put a foot wrong the whole weekend. We are hoping to aim him at the young horse world championships at Le Lion D'Angers later in the season."

Daniel Alderson and his own eight-year-old Accondy-sired Cloud Atlas won the novice regional final, just ahead of Nicola Wilson and Night Porter. Both combinations finished on their dressage mark of 28.2.

Mark Johnson won novice section L with Captain Cool. Mark reflected: "I bought Captain Cool in Ireland. It was pitch black, pouring rain and there was nowhere to ride and I trotted him up in the headlights of my car and bought him! Luckily my gut instinct paid off. He has taken well to eventing and is now getting much more confident cross country. I will step him up to intermediate and find a three-day for him later in the year. Floors is one of my favourite events and Jamie Innes and his team once again did a fantastic job. The bold galloping course rode well if you attacked it. You just can't tire of galloping for home past the magnificent backdrop of the castle."

Birthday girl Debra Rutherford continued her excellent run of form with Sunnytimes winning BE100 section G.

Henny Cooper also continued her undefeated run with her mother's Soprano D L Herbage, having already won at Burgham. Henny commented: "I was really pleased with his test and he felt very confident in his jumping. This is his second consecutive win and our second event together."
