AUCHINLECK horse trials basked in sunshine for their rescheduled event, where more than 250 horses started the competition.

Heading the Kingairloch Estate BE100 open class was Ailie Haddow with the experienced Patris Filius, who added a pole to their 26.5 dressage mark.

The 19-year-old skewbald gelding has previously contested both Badminton and Burghley with Ailie's sister Olivia Wilmot before being retired from top level eventing. They were determined to win one of the attractive rugs organiser Aly Boswell had provided for the final event, prior to the announcement that British Eventing would let them hold an event next year on June 7, up to novice level.

Runner up and double clear, but with six too fast time penalties to miss out on the top spot, was Alan Gilbert riding Andrew Malcolm's Elamo Scarvagh Lad. They were ninth in the novice class at Eglinton.

Louise McDonald was third with her Accondy-sired mare Dynamo. Having missed most of the 2012 season due to the horse picking up a virus, they've been sixth at both Eden Valley and Hopetoun this season and moved up to novice at Hendersyde next.

"She jumped really well today, the cross-country was straight forward," said Louise, who is the headteacher of Annbank Primary School. "The showjumping was in a nice big ring, it was very flowing, with lots of space."

Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire Pony Club member Alexandra Burns won a BE90 class with her own Silent Whisper II. Already with a similar win at Hopetoun, the pair, who are contesting novice teams, are next heading to the Scottish championships at Hendersyde.

Amy Gould from Girvan was double clear to win section B with Champagne Perry and Duns rider Gina Walker and Brillian View won section A.

Lucy Soeder headed the BE100 section F class with The Full Monty VIII, they next move up to novice level at Hendersyde. Coosh jumped double clear for Kirstin Bamford to win section E.

Two popular BE80 classes were held, with Samantha Binnie and Bells of Clover and Tino III and Hannah Sloan coming out best of those sections.
