Borders riders were the riders to beat at BE Drumclog when they returned with four wins.

The event, run high up in the South Lanarkshire hills, at Greenfield of Avondale had a great entry with more than 250 horses taking part. The course - both showjumping and cross country was influential - and some soft parts coming down off the top part of the course meant some horses had time faults.

Lauder rider Hannah Gajczak won a BE100 section with Diablo DC. The home-bred five-year-old is by the Trakkenner stallion Hensdieb and out Duncrahill Diddipop, a mare Hannah previously evented. They were fifth in the five-year-old class at Hopetoun and has been placed everytime out this season.

"It was a nice course and rode well," said Hannah, who receives help from Fiona Laing at Humbie. "He's such a nice person with no quirks and is very straightforward."

Jo Luton from Melrose won a BE90 class with Presenting Edward. The 14-year-old gelding by Presenting had previously raced over hurdles until he was eight and then left in a field. He arrived at Jo's two years ago and although has had limited outings this year as he has been ridden in the Border Rideouts by her partner's son Cameron McNeil who is the Lauder Cornet.

"He is an absolute dream to work with," said Jo. "I had one hairy moment at the drop at fence 9. He's really careful and I think racing frightened him and he jumped really big over it. He loves eventing and has only been out three times this year and qualified for the RoR challenge for Windsor. He's an ideal husband, an absolute dream."

They were double clear to finish on their dressage score of 19.5, and while that would usually be a mark to lead it was only good enough second after the first phase as Jade Struthers made BE history when posting a score of 7.5. This included six 10 marks including the collectives for a score of 92.5%.

Jade travelled to the event with Jo and rode Broudein Roxanne, who has had limited eventing outings due to concentrating on dressage. Just two weeks earlier they were at the BD under 25 championships at Sheepgate, being seventh in the young rider team event.

"I started eventing to try and make her more forward," explained Jade. This was their third event, and were third at Eden Valley.

Duke of Buccleuch Pony Club member Lia Graham rode her sister Connemara gelding Lickeen Ryan to win an BE90 class. "My horse has been injured and I've started riding him at competitions but Amber rides him at home," said Lia.

The fourth Border rider to win was Carolyn Gospel and Primitive Declaration, being double clear to win a BE80 clas. The other BE80 winner was Sarah Wright and Sir Winky of Springwood,

Joss Midgley rode Indian River to win the BE100 class. The 11-year-old is owned by her mother Miriam Midgley and her partner Andrew Drummond, a dairy farmer from Stranraer. They were second in the BE100 open class at Hutton, and at Eglinton's intermediate, Andrew rode to be eighth.

Cumbria rider Sam Magennis with Chester XX won the opening Wallace Dick and Sons BE90 Sam has been riding Chester for two years. Last year she sold the six-year-old to Louise Rowe for her daughter Bethany but has kept the ride until Bethany is old enough to compete.

Already with a win at Eglinton and second at Hutton under their belt, they next head to Hutton before the season finishes.

"He's not fit and had a routine physio appointment last week and lost time so struggled with the going today," explained Sam. They were double clear to finish on their dressage mark of 26. The previous day at Richmond, Sam was eighth in her first intermediate run with Vattrick.
