Visitors to the Royal Windsor Horse Show (May 12-16) were again treated to a host of Pony Club activities, with three different Pony Club disciplines taking place throughout the show.

As always the popular DAKS international pony club games took place throughout the week, culminating with the nail biting final on the Sunday. There was also an individual show jumping competition, and for the second year running a tetrathlon competition.

The DAKS pony club games saw teams from England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Republic of Ireland and Scotland battling it out for the title. The Republic of Ireland was finally victorious, in a first time win for them during the 31 years the competition has been running.

Daphne Sleight, previous District Commissioner of the Axe Vale Pony Club Branch for an incredible 30 year term, was the recipient of the ‘Friends of DAKS Salver’ for outstanding contribution to a branch. The award was presented by Paul Dimond, deputy chairman of DAKS. Daphne, who was nominated by her Pony Club Area for the award and chosen by The Pony Club Council, is now the honorary president of the Axe Vale branch.

Following the success of the inaugural tetrathlon competition at the show last year, this year the running, shooting and riding phases all within the castle grounds. The show jumping acted as the final phase making for an exciting end to the competition and Jaimie Paisley, aged 14, from the Eskdale branch in the south of Scotland, took the individual honours riding Emoe Chelsea, on a score of 4797. The South-west team took the team honours on a combined score of 13855.

Thirty-two members from Pony Club areas 8, 11, 12 and 13 were selected by their area representatives to take part in the individual show jumping competition on Sunday, in the Frogmore Arena. First place honours went to Amy Halstead, 15, from the Garth Hunt branch.
