TWENTY-SEVEN horses and ponies came forward for the Scottish Sports Horse three-year-old loose jumping championship at Howe Country Centre, Fife.

The red ribbon and £1000 first prize was awarded to Crockett (Talan x Torette Isolde VDL x Matterhorn), owned and bred by the Balcormo Farm Partnership, Leven, Fife who scored an impressive 192.5 out of a maximum of 220 points.

The bay gelding impressed the judges, James Lister and Alex Moulder, with his correct confirmation, excellent movement and good jumping technique also scooped the prize for the best home-bred colt/gelding and was given a portrait from Suzanne Black, of Fetlocks and Feathers.

The sire, Talan, was Robert Smith’s World Equestrian Games 2010 mount, and a 2012 Olympic hopeful.

Scoring 187.5, second place and best turned out went to the KWPN registered Colkitt, by Sunny Boy out of Ursula (whose sire is Lancet), owned and bred by William Meikle and Aileen Stormonth, from Carnwath, Lanarkshire.

Third place also went to the Balcormo Farm Partnership, this time with the VDL Douglas-bred gelding Cziko, out of Vinini x Emilion.

Ten ponies came forward to compete for a first prize of £250 and a portrait by Suzanne Black. Gaining 174 points and taking first prize was Hugh Paterson’s Miami Gemstone, (Solway Cruise x Ekside Amethyst x Sufton Romany Lane). The Newton Stewart-based filly, was also awarded an additional £50 for being the highest places Scottish bred pony. Hugh’s pony Just Blue won the pony loose jumping at Ingliston in 2009.

Second place and best turned out went to Woodburys Harlequin, owned by PJ Lillington, from West Lothian. Scoring 170points it was closely contested competition for the 128cm skewbald gelding, which is by Ferguson Uno (Numero Uno) out of the Waxwing Ster mare, Nightlight, by Moleview Mohawk. Third was Fife-based Scholland Stud’s filly Tullibardine Heigh-Ho, by Doylan Cochise out of Tullibardine Halo by Bengad Ramson.

The next event for the Scottish Sports Horse is the North of the Border Foal Show which will be held at Howe Country Centre, Fife on Saturday, November 27.
