ST BOSWELLS owners Paul and Clare Rooney have enjoyed a winning run, celebrating three winners on the trot in three days.

The couple began their victorious hat-trick with a winner at Bangor on May 20, when Lieutenant Gruber justified favouritism to win the maiden hurdle race.

Their colours were quickly back in the winner’s enclosure after Always Lion headed the three-mile handicap chase at Market Rasen on May 21.

Frederic made it win number three with a comfortable success at Carlisle on May 22.

His victory provided Carluke-trainer Keith Dalgleish with the second leg of a double.

He saddled Forever A Lady to a 12-1 win in the seven-furlong handicap, before Frederic posted an easy success in the staying handicap.

Winning jockey Graham Lee, who rode both the Belstane Stable victors, commented that Forever A Lady’s two previous victories had been with a cut in the ground, while Frederic had travelled well and felt as good as he looked.

Irvine jockey Danny Tudhope also posted two wins at Redcar the same afternoon.

He rode Golden State to head the seven-furlong maiden fillies’ stakes, and then brought home Clenymistra to a 6-1 victory in the staying handicap.

He rode Lord Riddiford to an 8-1 victory in the opening five-furlong novice stakes, and half-an-hour later was back in the winner’s enclosure after Mr Strutter headed the five-furlong selling stakes.

Over the jumps at Southwell the same afternoon, St Boswells owners Paul and Clare Rooney saw their colours carried to victory by The Tailgater in the two-and-a-half mile handicap hurdle race.

He rode 25-1 chance Al Qahwa to win the six-furlong handicap.

On the opening afternoon of Perth’s two-day fixture, Scotland’s most northerly trainer, Jackie Stephen, saddled Welcome Ben to win the two-mile novice chase.

The winner was ridden to victory by Hawick jockey Craig Nichol.

Another Hawick jockey in winning form at the fixture was Blair Campbell who partnered Spoils of War to an 8-1 success in the three-mile novice handicap hurdle race for Milnathort trainer Lucinda Russell.

Craig Nichol notched his second success in two days after riding the Nicky Richards-trained Caius Marcius to win the two-mile handicap hurdle race at Perth on May 18.

Musselburgh owner Margaret Coppola also enjoyed her second successive win.

On the Flat at York the same day, Danny Tudhope added another win to his tally, riding Fashion Queen to a 20-1 victory in the five-furlong Listed race.

He was back in the winner’s enclosure at the same track the following afternoon, riding Main Desire to head the opening five-furlong fillies’ stakes on May 19.
