A REVISED layout was necessary to allow the Border Union Show to go ahead but despite some soft patches the sun shone and the going was good.

Overall Welsh pony champion was the Gartconnel Stud's Welsh section A champion Gartconnel Show Girl, an eight-year-old grey mare by Gartconnel Countryman. A past champion of the Royal Highland Show she was shown with a filly foal at foot by Gartconnel Shooting Star, which has won four Highland Show championships and was best of breed at Olympia.

Jill Williams judging said: "She was just a typical Welsh mare, with lovely bone and full of quality and moved well. I also liked the reserve, the stallion, he was my type of pony with bone and substance."

This was the section B champion, Eyarth Mercury from Ann Bell. The 12-year-old stallion is a past champion at the Great Yorkshire and Lampeter shows.

The Welsh section C/D champion was Charlie and Christine Anderson's home-bred two-year-old colt Rushiefield Oh So Smart, by Parvadean Replay.

Overall mountain and moorland in-hand was Gavin Reilly with Sandra Doyle's Townend Sam. The 12-year-old Fell also won a mountain and moorland working hunter class at the show, a section he relishes having been champion at NPS in the spring.

Champion of the in-hand Highland ponies was Gilliam McMurray with Trailtrow Tanera, a six-year-old mare which was supreme at the Border Highland ppny show. She is by the HOYS champion Dunedin Marksman. In the ridden section Jessica Puigsley rode Anne Mitchell's Dunedin Mountain Rose to be champion, while reserve was another Dunedin pony, Dunedin Finale, ridden by Christopher Grant.

The coloured champion was the non native ridden horse, Towercos Pablo Princess, ridden by Julie Cameron. The six-year-old mare is home-bred and is by the showjumping stallion Centyfield Nico.

Gillian McCowan's Fusilier won the ridden hunter championship before lifting the overall hunter supreme title ahead of the in-hand champion, Look Ahead from Joanne and William Moran.

Gillian also headed the riding horse championship with her own home-bred Third Time Lucky III, a seven-year-old by Classic.

In the Dubarry Burghley young event horse qualifiers both classes were won by Scottish riders. Rose McPherson won the four-year-old class with her own Irish-bred mare Silver Thread, while Daniel Scott and Honduraz Van Het Eegde Ken were best of the five-year-olds.
