Claire Chisman's lifted the overall supreme horse championship at the Royal Northern Spring Show for the second year in succession, this time with Cosford Persona.

Supreme judge Richard Telford picked the riding pony stallion over the Clydesdale champion.

Cosford Persona, a three-year-old son of Stanley Grange Cocktail and out of Cosford Pernickity, has been unshown since Claire purchased him as a yearling. Her champion last year, the five-year-old Small-land Entertainer will come out under saddle this season.

"I really liked the supreme, it was beautifully produced and presented very well," said judge Richard Telford. "I liked the Clydesdale but felt that it wasn't shown as well as the riding pony."

Bogton Denver, a two-year-old colt owned and bred by Vic and Mark Peterkin was the Clydesdale champion. Sired by Collessie Sir Alex and out of Phesdo Heather, last season it won many classes and was champion at Teen Ranch Show.

The reserve was John Anderson's yearling filly Redcastle Maple. She is by Redcastle Brelee Majestic, which John imported from Canada as a colt foal and won the Cawdor Cup in 2011 and out of Redcastle Blossom's Gift. Maple was champion foal at Forfar and reserve champion at Lanark.

Shetland ponies were the best supported section of the show with Kay Gibb finding her champion in the yearling Warrackston Tiger Lily, owned and bred by Ian Spence.

The chestnut filly is by Tarves of Hutton and out of Tay of Hutton, which was first at the breed show. Tiger Lily was champion at Tayside Foal Show and first at Brodie and Black Isle shows.

"I had an excellent turnout of ponies today. They were all beautifully turned out," said judge Kay Gibb. "I thought the champion had lots of potential was free moving and straight and very eye catching."

Reserve was Ann Irvine's three-year-old home-bred colt Sancho of Haybrake, by Hazelhead Dynamite and out of Shorelark of Haybrake II.

Jo Jack judged the Highland ponies, selecting Greg and Shona Childs' Drumbulg Morning Mist as the champion. By Moss-side Iain Mor and out of Jane of Edinglassie, the home-bred two-year-old filly was champion at the Welsh Group Show, junior champion at Echt Show and reserve at New Deer.

Reserve was Her Majesty The Queen's Balmoral Esther, a yearling filly by the Olympia ridden champion Torrin of Croila and out of Tower Lucky Charm. This was her first outing and she is a full sibling to the HOYS Cuddy finalist Tower Clyde.

In the mountain and moorland ponies Jane Readhead's Connemara stallion Oaklands Arvak, was Rosemary Young's choice as champion. The seven-year-old by Bunowen Castle Ri and out of Oaklands Icing, was shown by Holly Miller.

"It presented itself well, it had good conformation and was a worthy winner, it had 'look at me quality'," said Rosemary.

The reserve was the Fell gelding Urwins Tom Boy, shown by Wayne and Emma Gayler. The nine-year-old gelding is by Heltondale Tom Tom and out of Urwins Ruby and last year was champion at Keith Show.

In the sport and riding horses, Jane Jeffries was champion with Hot Topic. The chestnut seven-year-old home-bred gelding by Hollylands o'Donovan and out of Hot Spice, a mare Jane previously competed.

"It had good limbs and powerful movement and as a sport horse had the potential to go on in any discipline," said judge Elizabeth Boon.

The reserve was Holly Miller's yearling Raemoir Strike A Pose II, by Whalton Above Suspicion and out of Raemoir Strike A Pose.

"I really liked the reserve, it had the most fantastic walk," added Elizabeth.

Reserve in the pony section was Fiona and Ashley Anderson's Archwood Flash Dance, a three-year-old gelding. By Telunau Piersporter, it was purchased via the internet as a foal from the Achwood Stud in North Wales. Two foals are due this year and the pony has now been gelded. Last year it was overall in-hand champion at Caithness County Show and champion at Turriff.

In the traditional cob section Hazel Manson and Danny McNeill's traditional piebald gelding The Gunslinger was champion. The three-year-old was shown by David Scott-Downie, and last season was champion at Keith Show and second at the Royal Highland Show.

Gemma Stewart was reserve with the four-year-old traditional mare Park Gabriella, which is currently being broken.
