IT WAS a yearling filly from brothers George and Sandy Baird which stood to the fore at last weekend's Winter Fair native pony show, held at United Auctions' Stirling centre, last weekend.
Their April 2012-born Ulrika of Whitefield is by Oliver of Forglen, a stallion loaned from Gordon and Ann Towns for a season, and out of Queencake of Whitefield from West Whitefield, Burrelton, Blairgowrie.
Taking the reserve spot was was the two-year-old filly, Prosen Mist of Craigieloch, from Frank and Morven Lawson, Chapel of Dron, Invergowrie, Dundee. This blue ticket holder from Perth and East Fife Shows is out of Failte of Craigieloch, which herself stood first in her class at the Highland Show as a yearling and second at Perth as a broodmare with Prosen Mist at foot.
And the foal champion came in the shape of Tower Cavalier - a previously unshown April-born colt foal by Whin of Shielhill and out of Tower Amanda - from James Hendrie and Mrs A Kerr, of Glengarry, Carrick Hills, Maybole.
