TWO YEARLING fillies lifted the champion and reserve honours in the Clydesdale section at the Royal Northern Spring Show, held at Thainstone, on Wednesday.

Taking the red, white and blue sash was John Anderson's Redcastle Mhorita Millie, an April-born filly backed by imported Canadian genetics, being by Redcastle Brelee Majestic - a Cawdor Cup winner with many other championships under his belt - and out of Stonecroft Mhorita Jewel, from John's base at Drummygar Mains, Carmyllie, Arbroath.

Mhorita Millie boasts plenty tickets having taken the supreme championship at both the Lanark Foal Show and the Winter Fair as well as the champion sash at the Lanark and Borders Foal Show.

In reserve was the second prize yearling filly, Tulloes Lady Jane from Ally Greenhill, Upper Tulloes, Forfar, and brought out by grand-daughter Louise. A late foal born in June, she is by Collessie Stepping Stone, out of Rosehall Victoria and picked up a second at the Forfar Foal Show as well as third at Cupar Foal Show.

Over in the Highland lines, judge Rebecca Chalmers showed her consistency by picking out a young colt and his sire to fill the top two places.

Awarded the supreme was the two-year-old Stone Roses na Dailach from Lynne McDonald, Mains of Coynach, Tarland, Aboyne. No stranger to the limelight at the Spring Show, Lynne picked up her third championship here with this youngster out of Prionnsonna Rose na Dailach bought privately from the Osbornes, last year. He was second in his class at Duthie Park and first at both the Grampian Foal Show and Turriff, while a full brother, Zizou, was recently exported to Germany.

He stood above his sire, Charlie of Muck, belonging to mother and daughter team Marguerite and Virginia Osborne, Kinclune, Kirriemuir.

Lightly shown in-hand, this 13-year-old by Strathmashie Seumas Mhor, out of Mary of Muck, was champion at the Stallion Show in 2008, was reserve in-hand and ridden at the Grand Slam, last year, and has lifted many ridden championship tickets.

Leading the Shetlands was Jim Wilson's Warrackston Guylian, a rising nine-year-old by Titus of Hutton and out of Gatebeck Crystal Gleam, from Leys Farm, Muckhart, Dollar.

Champion at Kirriemuir Show last year, she has also lifted the overall brood mare title at the Breed Show at Harrogate for the last two years and was presented by 15-year-old Lisa Wilson.

In reserve was Hjatland Hirta, a four-year-old miniature mare by Vallendale Geordie, out of Fenella of Houlland, from Donald MacLeod, 3 Brannen, Dornoch, Sutherland. Usually well placed on the local show circuit, she secured the reserve honours at the Black Isle ably handled by young Reece.
